mugshot fail?
« on: March 10, 2011, 07:03:07 PM »
a couple of my alternate takes/failures, all with the konica and type 107. i also attempted to use my ID camera and take a split shot but they were bad and out of focus. anyone else have any other ideas or takes that didn't quite work or you liked less? i chose what seemed to be the most surly and moodiest of the shots as my final. i think the first of these is decent, except i'm too low in the frame. and i like the 107 good scan but not enough for final image use.

and i don't smoke, so that's a rolled up and crinkled carbon receipt, which probably tastes about as bad as a real shtick.

My first idea was to make up an image using full frame images as per the first of these images below, but it generally didn't work for me.

Then I decided to use separate images as per the second.  Whilst I liked this I wanted to add a bit of humour so the final image as submitted had the ears added in profile.

I did briefly try my final image with my clearing (bald patch) showing but this just didn't work for me.

Edit: My original narrative for the image had, the T****ist and the P****hile, however I thought better of it. You would never know quite where this might end up.

I had originally intended to shoot mugshots of 3 or 4 different people and then chop up the images into separate animated GIFs. However, the sun was rubbish that week and the camera is virtually uncontrollable from an exposure perspective so I had to wait for a sunny day, by which time there was only jacqui and myself about. The one of her worked really well though so I'm not too bothered.

Here's the one she took of me.

Well, I too got a few concepts that didn't turn out...
I probably could have made this one work had I wasted a lot more film...

One of the problems with the image is I didn't take full control of the exposure...
And the shadow isn't defined well enough for my taste...

When I shot it, I wasn't really "in the mood" for it and I think it shows...

OK, I guess you could have made more of it, but I still really like the idea, Francois. Great stuff.

Overall, it's a shame that we didn't get more contributors to this collaboration. The ones we did get were fantastic though, so I guess that compensates to some extent.

Thanks Ed!

Looking at it now, it's not as bad as I thought... probably didn't have my screen setup right :)

It has a very dadaist feel to it...

This would have been good as well,  I think having a stronger shadow would have made the clock too dark and you would have had to lighten it up.

You should have combined the two image.  Bonnie & Clyde type characters.

I did have a similar idea,  I liked the play on words, but it wasn't until I scanned this image that I realised I'd chosen a mug with mugshots on.  Albeit characters from a Wallace and Gromit animation.  This was a light hearted look.
