Photos from Dec 28th

Hello All. Hope you had a great end to 2007. I've not been around on the forum at all for various reasons and boy have I missed it. Glad that you're all still here :-) Thought I'd post a few recent snaps...not sure why. Mainly I suppose to show that I'm still out there taking photos (however ordinary) even if I'm not here making sarcastic comments while the rest of you take part in erudite discussion on all things film-related.

Anyway, over Christmas I was supposed to meet up with Leon and his lovely laday, Helen, on the 28th/29th Dec, but somehow we never managed it. Instead I went to Whitstable one afternoon with Jacqui and Amy and - while Amy* cried for two hours and refused to walk a step on her own, or even stand up on her own - I had a bash with my manual Pentax SLR, a really shitty old telephoto lens that my bro-in-law has lent me and some Agfa Prescia slide film. It was a fairly stressful session because of the constant aural abuse supplied by my beautiful daughter (for example see the look on Jacqui's face in the first shot :D), but despite that it was fun too.

I like the way the Agfa handled in the late afternoon winter sun, but I realise now that I need to work on my telephoto technique a bit because some of the shots aren't composed the way that I thought they would be. It's all new to me at the moment and in a way I like the uncertainty.

* Amy is 22 months old and usually loves running around at the beach. Not on this day though. Oh no  >:(

I've missed your remarks and postings here Ed.
Amy has grown by leaps and it appears your talent for capturing just the "right moment" has not lapsed due to your absence.

Great to see you back in the neighborhood!

loving these ed - that seagulls shot is a complete winner - looks like it should be in an advert or something. I'd get that up in some picture library somewhere - it's sure to be used.

The film looks really grainy - is it a fast film?

Helen says thanks for the Laday reference - she says noone has ever called her that before (joking!)

Sweet stuff! I love them all, the overall feel is nice - England in summer (ha ha). The best for me is the ship. Really nice - but, I'm a hardware kinda otaku... Skj.

I really like grainy colour shots. These are cracking Ed. I especially like the first one and also the seagulls shot  :)

Happy to see you're back.

You lucky to live at a decent distance from the sea.
Last time I went to the beach, it was a 14 hour drive on the highway...

Love the grain... come to think of it, I haven't used my tele in years...

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

I'm sorry it was a stressful time for you, but at least the shots came together. Thank heaven for little gulls, eh?!

I'll get my coat...!

sorry to be mr picky but ...

Hello All. Hope you had a great end to 2007.

now, Ed, either things have gone very wrong in your "mind-tank" or you have a time machine.  I think I know which is the right answer ;)

A really nice collection of images, the tones and perspective in the first shot are amazing and the shot of the gulls perched is a super image.  You know of course that depending on where you show this lovely  image it may  be suggested  you dropped  these birds into the image.  Saw something similar recently, not as good i might add, in a competition and the author stated on the back of the image that it was not manipulated in any way. Sad isn't it !.

Filmwasters! Glad you all liked 'em. Thanks for the 'welcome backs' and the warm reception.

Who else has noticed that Leon has appointed himself proof-reader of my forum posts? Thanks, Druid, sometimes I need a translator, in much the same way that you need a laday. :-*  :D In other FW-related news, Damion come down to London this weekend with the lovely, Kelly, so it's been a Filmwasters weekend in London town. We used up quite a lot of Polaroid film yesterday and had a great time. It was fun; my first time with a 'Roid in about 18 months. Will post the best results separately.

Frank B: Ba-daaaaa Don't call us, we'll call you  ;D
Eddie: Yep, depressing innit?
Beckster: Great to be back, thanks. BTW, although she has grown up a lot, the kid in the first snap actually isn't Amy; it's just some kid on the beach. Amy was wrapped around my neck screaming. She was being so annoying I may even have let go momentarily to focus and compose the shot of Jacqui. Amy clung on well enough, so no-one was injured  :o ;D

The images are great...all of them. I love the English seaside in the winter, that slightly sad rundown feeling you get...well you do in my neck of the woods... and these capture it so well.....the film is great also, I have never used it but I love the colour reproduction and the grain..! Obviously being new here I had no idea you had been away...but welcome back anyway  :)
