Holgarama of Cyclone, Coney Island, NY
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:27:17 PM »
I guess it's time I stop lurking around here and post something at least occasionally. This image was created by overlapping 8 frames in the Holga and toned in Photoshop. Let me know what you think.

Very nice, but a bit hard for me to see that small I'm afraid..

Hi Andrew....good to see you posting some work here at FW. I like a lot of the stuff you have on your Green St site too, BTW.

Re this image; you can post larger images on the forum. As long as the filesize is under 200kb it doesn't matter how large the image itself is. The forum will automatically create re-sized 'thumbnail' images which people can click on to view the full image size.

I went ahead and uploaded a larger version, of course when the image has a ratio of about 1:7 (H:L) it is nearly impossible to properly display online :)

Andrew - welcome aboard, I really love your image, it's a great idea and Coney Island is on my list of places I have to visit.

Thanks all for the kind words!

@Nigel you better hurry up and get to Coney Island as it is being torn down.  I have been twice in the past 6 or so years and this last trip it I found much less was there than my first trip.  I learned after this past trip that they started tearing down some of what was left.  I am glad I made one last trip.  I think the Cyclone and maybe one or two of the little theme parks like Astoland may survive, but the whole area is being revitalized so much of the grit and basically what makes Coney Island awesome will be gone. :(

Such a beautiful vintage feel and I actually love all the vignetted panels throughout!

When I look at this I think of the aspect ratio of those ads in the subway cars, where they also post artwork.  Have you thought of pitching this to the MTA?  Wouldn't it look great there?

Great stuff, Andrew.  I love a Holgarama, though I rarely get results I'm happy with.  This is excellent.

Thanks again everyone!  This is one of my favorite Holgaramas I have ever shot.

I am with you Sapata, I wish I could display this online better.

I am currently looking into way I might actually display this piece.  I am going to make a print about 5ft long and I'm thinking of mounting it on to Aluminum.  I discard the idea of framing it mainly because finding matt board past 4.5 ft is nearly impossible and I'm not sure this image would work so well matted and framed.

Eventually this will end up over my couch :)
