I've seen some of Curtis' work in collections in Santa Fe, and they are exquisite!  The images on the web are very nice but in person they are about 10x more powerful to behold.

Love his work and style.  Thanks for posting this!   :)

Love them!

I have a Taschen book of his work.

sad to think he struggled to get proper recognition while he was alive.

i have great respect for the native american people
particularly the Choctaw people. During the Great
Irish Famine of the 1840's the Choctaw people raised
money to send to Ireland to ease the suffering after
experiencing similar strife on the Trail of Tears.

I love his American Indian photography!  There's something so surreal and touching to look at.... realizing these are not actors dressed in costumes... this is the real deal.  Those men with the feather headdresses - oh my word, so stunning. All of it is just fabulous (and I seriously would love to do my hair like that - it's totally beyond its time!)
