Pull processing???
« on: December 06, 2010, 08:05:20 PM »
Righty ho,

My understanding is that if I expose a roll of 1600 film as 800 ISO and then develop as if it were an 800 film then I've pull processed the film.

Have I got it right so far?

Right - so when I see on the web people saying "I prefer rating the 1600 at 1000"

I take it that this person still develops the film as if it were still a 1600 film?
Presumably they are just overexposing by 2/3 of a stop to bring out some of the shadow detail?

Am I on the right lines?

Im using Fuji Acros100 a lot now as it doesnt suffer from Reciprocity Failure

I pull [over-expose] the film mostly 2 stops so I shoot it at ISO25
and compensate for the "incorrect" exposure when developing by
40%.

I use Caffenol-C normally @ 15 minutes so while pull processing I dev for 9 minutes.

You probably heard the phrase "Expose for the shadows and develop for the Highlights"

to answer your question >

Overexposing should bring more details to the shadows. If I really want shadow detail, I meter the shadow detail... so I guess that is really doing the same thing.

I would totally understand this thread if I hadn't had that 2nd glass of apple vodka right after the bottle of Weston's cider I drank with my tea. Hic.
