awesome day for polaroid off ebay
« on: January 28, 2011, 12:27:36 AM »
well, if I didn't have 2 packs of the same as Erin (Mohave) do the same thing as in her earlier post, they were from the same seller.  Well, you know, it's a risk buying expired film of ebay.

So the mail arrives with a tattered mailing envelop. Not expecting anything else for packages except 2 boxes of type 55, expecting the worse from that envelope (I mean who mails type 55 in an envelope?), I find the film out of box and in the foil inner box only, smashed, twisted and upon opening the foil jaw dropping shocked to see type 79, not 55, on the foil. So I think this looks bad enough, let's try one.

Bone dry - no need to even load it.

What a day...

I should hold my horses. in the middle of the pack there's some that show some life.  The 'shots' are deep purple blobs, spread fairly evenly across the film, but nuances and variances in them that make each a one of a kind abstraction.  No need to even shoot it in a camera, just run it through the holder.

Tres cool - post-photography photography in a post-polaroid era.

good thing is the seller for the "55" refunded my money.  The 665 was purchased back in the 1st week of December so it would be a stretch to get that back - especially with the "sold as is" caveat on the film..

Gregor, he offered to send me a single pack. I told him my friend bought the same film from him, same exp. date, and he had the same problem. Seller tried to tell me I wasnt pulling the film out right. Whatever. Anyway, I suggested he not try to sell any more of that film. I doubt he'll offer a second pack for my friend, but we'll see.

Also, I discovered that if you take the pack apart leaving the center part together and run your fingers through the negatives, you can separate them and then the pack will work. I tested this out with one remaining pack. All my pix came out solid black, which I dont understand, but the goop spread out evenly and I was able to get 4 pix to come out right. The remaining three had issues. Not sure what to do about that, but anyway, its something. If the film sticks and wont come out, try pulling the pack apart and separating the negatives. It might work.

well, glad he has some left and is sending you one replacement.  I don't buy the "pulling it wrong" line.  What a load of rubbish. That's making a stupid assumption that someone paying 50 bucks USD per pack is a polaroid newbie. Oy vey...

Sean, craig's list has some occasional great finds.  A local photog., trying too get rent money back in November, sold me 10 packs of 665 for 100 USD  All well cared for and all packs good! That day I was in bliss ;-)

for craigslist usually I search local but sometimes go to google and type "item I'm looking for site:craiglist.org" sometimes they are willing to ship.
