Leon and Susan (un)officially cross the pond
« on: March 20, 2007, 04:36:17 PM »
Yes, it's true, Leon and Susan are starting to be the talk of the town in France!

They are in fact the subject of a discussion at the H0LG4 group
Leon is at http://www.h0lg4.org/viewtopic.php?t=2298
Susan B is at http://www.h0lg4.org/viewtopic.php?t=225

Now, for those not fully versed in the tongue of Molière, here is a cheap and dirty translation starting with Leon's discussion:
-Leon Taylor proposes a portfolio divided in two : the pictures taken through a glass lens and those taken through a plastic lens... and it gives neat landscapes.
And if you want more, there's his blog.
-There's some nice pictures here!
Is it only Holga?
-I go back.
For those who haven't seen...
-This site leads to another: www.filmwasters.com

And for Susan's
-Susan Burnstine : holga or lubitel ?
-I would say Lubitel.
-It's all Holga, Lubitel is much sharper......and she did the front page at toycamera.com a while back, I already knew it !!
-Cheater! It's quite "clean" for Holga work.
-She does use many toycameras on this gallery, I remember she also used a  Diana and an Isoly if I remember correctly.
-Not much vignetting for Holga, we can recognise it with the sharp center at the center that is... only at the center.
I bring it back up because it's neat and it allowes not to get sh** because we re-publish links...

As you can see, a very popular, lively and highly intellectual discussion ;D

I guess I should be honored even if someone called me a cheater?
I can't really follow this translation, but I think they are looking at my toycamera.com page from years ago?
If so, those are a variety of toy cameras.
Mostly diana and diana clones. I think there's a random holga and isoly shot in there.
Can't recall, as it's been a long time since I logged onto that site.

My present work on my website is not toycamera work. It's all from homemade cameras. I wouldn't exactly put that in the same category as "toy", but seems I tend to fall into it.

Seems Leon got the thumbs up. Very much deserved.

Don't take it personal Susan, I think they were talking about the poster who had looked at the Toycamera page and already knew the answer to his own question...

I must say that the posters this French site are often much like a bunch of old gossipy ladies ;)

Unofficial off the cuff translation:

-Don't know if he's already been there but it's super, though a bit strange... (sorry, I don't get the author's gist so my translation may be way off)
-I don't find it strange. She doesn't break **** (a local expression that doesn't translate well, so fill in with whatever you like :) ) with the formats.
-There are a few pictures that are truly excellent. But the site navigation could use a bit of help.
-The rabbit reminds me of Donnie Darko.

You're welcome...
I didn't take time to make it nice and clean (like applying the 10% fewer words in English rule).
Human translation is always better than Babelfish no matter how simply it is made.

Here I go...
-... fujipet ( 6x6), quite a look isn't it! (actually says nice head... local expression)
-It's a nice piece of work. Skorj does nice things with it.
-Ha! Ha! Ha! the wink ( ??? ??? ???)
-Incredible! Did you find one Franck? It's got an incredible look!
-Skorj's pictures look dirty (a very local expression... potatoes??? really not related. I think he talks about the raw dusty unfinished look your images have)
-I looked on e-bay and it's impossible to find used right now.
-Not bad.

Somehow, I think some of the posters probably live way out in the country! Like you say, what do potatoes have to do in this thread? Maybe he was talking that your pictures are like yummy potatoes! Not knowing what he means by that, I would just stick to this nicer version ;)

We all know the French and how much they like their food ;)

I'm lucky because they also happen to have a deep love for weird abbreviations and word transformations... none of which were present in the messages. (oof! translating this stuff can be a real doozie :) )

Lets just say it's way better than reality television  :D
