Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn.......?
« on: October 09, 2010, 08:37:19 PM »
Which time of year, if any, do you prefer to shoot (and why)? Is there a season where you don't bother with the camera?

My favourite is Spring. Colour is there in abundance (if you want it), it's getting dryer outdoors, the temperature isn't usually too hot or too cold and the days are getting a bit longer.

That said, I'm not really a fair-weather 'tog, I'll be out in all weathers.

Spring also, for the light and the mild weather. I hate lugging about cameras and bags of stuff in hot weather.. in the winter I stick to B&W and my winter kit includes my fingerless cashmere gloves to keep my hands warm when taking pix  ;D

I'll shoot any time to be honest. I guess my least favourite time is summer as the sun is high and everything looks tired. I sometimes find summer distracting; long days, bright light, warm. Mentally I feel like there ought to be many opportunities to take photos. I find that too much pressure at times.

Reduce the possibilities and I feel more comfortable. Yeah, any time but summer.

No favourite season here... I love clouds and blue sky, this combination looks good on either colour and B&W.

Autumn...it's beautifully tragic.
though a snowy scene is hard to beat.

winter has it's advantages here, as it is cooler, though the days are shorter. greater chance of creepy squatters out in the desert abandonments, though...nobody around in the summer heat. light is about the same no matter the time of year.

I don't like shooting in winter because I hate photographing snow but love the beach in winter. Fall is wonderful after the leaves have fallen and everything is desolate.

I could cite reasons why I love each season!  I'm looking forward to late fall into winter when trees shed their leaves and boldly show off their true personalities, but my metal body camera burns my hands in the cold temps.  I'm a total wuss ;))

Anytime of the year for me as long as it's that hour straddling dawn and sunset!

I'm not choosy - unless it is mid-summer at mid-day .... erm, actually, that is ok too:

I don't know if I have a favourite time as such I guess it's the light. In the winter I shoot less, not because I like the winter light less, but because the shooting times I favour are when I'm at work or getting the kids to school i.e 8-9 am 3-4 pm photographic opportunities are more limited for me at least.
Leaving home in the dark and coming home in the dark restrict my image making to week-ends.
Like Phil said I don't like harsh summer sun, and I'm not a fan of the dull hazy days either, so I guess spring and autumn for the low long shadows and sometimes warmer light.

That said in winter I shoot indoors a little more, but my main constriction is time, I have a few places I'd like to shoot but only under the right light.
Edit I do like the type of light you get later in the day or at dawn and that yellowish autumn light.

I don't think I have a favorite season for shooting.
For me, it's mostly about types of weather for not shooting.
Humid sunny +30°C summer heat... no fun there with all the sweating and sunburning...
On the opposite, -20°C winter chill... when you feel like your fingers will fall off, it's not fun.

The rest is OK I guess

I dont really have a favorite time of the year to shoot either. I just change what and when I shoot depending on the time of year. But, since I do shoot a lot of abandoned homes, I find myself looking forward to November because thats when the snakes go to sleep.
