Steve McCurry Exhibition in Birmingham
« on: August 20, 2010, 07:48:58 PM »
For any UK-based 'togs (or any other nationality within striking distance of Birmingham) there's a truly fantastic exhibition of Steve McCurry's work on at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery:

Apologies if anyone's already posted about this but I couldn't find any reference when using the "search" function.

My wife and I went a couple of weekends ago and, apart from the travel cost, the exhibition is completely free of charge. I have no idea why but this has got to be the best freebie exhibition (apart from the Dorothy Bohm one in Manchester) out there right now.

I'm currently 'working' in Birmingham at the moment so went and had a look at this exhibition. I thought it was great. It's hard to pick out a best picture but I was particularly entranced by his 'Fishermen at Weligmama'.

The exhibition finishes 17th October.

He had a major exhibition up here in Edinburgh a few years back. Stunning photos and there was an interesting film they showed about his work and travels. Beautiful colourist.

Given that Steve McCurry was is a true film genius (and I don't use the "genius" tag lightly) I'm surprised that so few people have ever heard of him. Mind you, I doubt the guy ever wasted a frame of his K64 let alone deliberately blurred much... ;)
