« on: September 09, 2010, 12:07:34 AM »
I have been browsing through my negative binders today and pulled out some old negatives to scan.
These would have been amongst the earliest one I have.  Taken with either the schools Practica (An MTL I think) or my Zorki 4K.  First two are on TriX and the last I think on Boots Panchromatic (Ilford FP3?).

there's something with a dusty neg that I like... anyway, fun stuff! I hope I'll be able to store my negs good enough to look back after 30 years too :)

really liking the third btw. nice contact with the girl (and focus)

is it just my age ... or do the 2nd two pics look like they could have been taken recently?  Really nice - thanks for posting them Mike.

I haven't really done anything special in storing my negatives.
I use various negative files, kenro, jessops, etc. stored in the ring binders provided by the sleeve suppliers.
Generally what ever has been available at the photo store.

The negatives are also in reasonable condition, particularly since at this time I wouldn't have realised the significance of incorrect processing.

In fact I think I've only got about three rolls which look as if they weren't wash properly and now have some degree of staining.

It is interesting that you all think the first shows it age more.

I think I can see what you mean, but I am not entirely sure why the other two seem more timeless.

Of course, context is everything and for me, I am well aware that the first two were taken in the sixth form room at school.

Memory is an interesting thing.

I cannot recall the first young lady at all.

The second I cannot remember her name but she got straight A's and an unconditional offer from the university of her choice.

The third I can remember her name, Carol and more beside.

The lady in the background is my mother roughly at the age I am now and Carol is about the same age as my daughter.

Scary or what?

Thank you all for your comments.

I think it's all about style and appearance - the 2nd two girls wouldn't look out of place if you saw them today, but the first's haircut dates her very definitely.

Did you have a "flick" like her Leon ? ;)

(BTW - I went to Brum and picked up that darkroom stuff today, lots of stuff for colour there too, Patterson Thermodrum and a Durst analyser that I'll probably out as it looks like too much of a headache, but the rest seems all cool).

I like the third too, the DoF gives it a personal yet distant contrast.

Good stuff, Mike. I have a TON of old negs and prints to scan and I really need to get round to doing something with them....maybe in another 10 years  :) Some are my own, but most are from my parents or grandparents and I'm the subject rather than the photographer.

The third girl looks like a young Amanda Holden, doesn't she?

I love all those photos but the back / side lighting on the first two set them apart for me. I do like a bit of contre-jour....!!

Since most of you seem to like Carol.  Here she is again.
