that was truly amazing.  As was learning that daguerreotypes record piles.

I had no idea!

What really struck me was all the protection he had against the chemicals throughout the process. Kind of makes me wonder what the folks used to do back in the day to protect themselves.

The short answer is simply nothing...
I found in an old photography book a series of detox recipes for poisoning by certain chemicals used in the old days... the recipes look sometimes more dangerous than the toxic chemicals!

Good heavens. Its a wonder photography survived at all with the processes trying to kill off the photogs.
