Look what the postman brought me !!
« on: October 29, 2010, 07:49:31 PM »
Oh boy I'm happy...!

I've been looking for a cheap SLR that I can throw in my bag and just forget. Few time ago I got a stunning Praktica in pristine condition for a bargain... it lasted enough to do some tests and before I threw the packaging away it was gone...

I found this beauty on ebay and now I can use the Praktica lens which apparently is really good ! Anyone had any experience with the Pentacon lens ?

Drool, drool..... :P

Nice Spotmatic. There is some wonderful glass out there for not much moolah. This is a very nice piece of kit that will, in the right hands - of course, produce some stunning photos.

Damn, that's a good looking spotmatic. I have a friend that has the same pentacon lens. I think its pretty good. Better than the nikon 50 that i have, at least wide open. Also, it focus crazy close.

Hey, what kind of battery do you use with the spotmatic sapata?

I've been thinking of a 1970s styled SLR myself. I have the sport-jacket already. This looks a great option! Skj.

Two things strike me in that ad:
I never had ladies look at me like that... maybe I too should get a leisure suit :)
Also, on the table is what looks like a roll of 120 (thin and long) while he is holding a 35mm SLR... I'd really love to see him load that camera :)

I've searched the iformation and apparently Energizer Oxide 392 is a good battery even thought it's not meant to be. It seems that the Pentax has a "bridge circuit", God only knows what it is but apparently the voltage difference won't affect. Mine came with a tiny one that looks like a watch battery, it's working fine.

Yeah... I guess the ladies are thinking how on earth he's going to put that film in the camera !! :D

Yes, doesn't it look like he's trying to put a roll of 120 in a 35mm camera? Which would mean that another answer to the question posed, 'What sort of a man reads Playboy?', would be, a man who is a little delusional about size issues.

Hi Mauricio.

If you need any bits for a Spotmatic, you could do worse than ring a friend of mine (Mike Perry) who owns David Lipson Photography in Great Dunmow, Essex (01371 872129). He has all sorts of old bits and bobs kicking around and I know he's auctioned a few on his Ebay site fairly recently.

The other business I can recommend is "Sepia Memories" in Morecambe. I've bought a few lenses and such from there over the years are they've always been very courteous and professional.

... in Morecambe...

Ahhh... Morcambe. I remember it from my childhood. On a recent visit, it did not occur to me to look for camera shops though. Pity! I did enjoy the mud though...
