How do you clean your negatives ?
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:37:09 PM »
I've been going through my box of negatives and I found some really old ones, in fact they're the first I've ever processed back at my High school days.

Some of them are quite dirty and I was wondering which way would be the best to clean. Would it be better just wash in plain water again and leave it to dry or is there any other better way of doing it ?

I know Tetenal (or at least I think it's them), used to make some film cleaner...

In a very old photography book, I found the following formula:
Ammonia 28%   5 ml
Distilled Water   95 ml
Isopropyl alcohol to make   1 liter

I never did try it. It's the type of thing you apply on the film and wipe with a very soft cloth I guess. They weren't very descriptive. But since it makes 1 liter, you might very well just pop the film in and wipe it dry with a soft cloth or lens tissue...

Film is the vinyl record of photography.
