I had no idea they were doing this - thankfully it didn't go through. No thanks to me through!

this was great news for photogs ... but there are still issues with the Digital Economy Bill (soon to be act) that will affect internet users. yet another situation where the citizen/state relationship is being eroded.

This isn't going to go away. There are big corporations who are going to continue to push for this legislation, so artists and photographs are going to have to remain vigilant in fighting it. I think it was Mark Getty who was famously quoted as saying 'content is the oil of the 21st century' --  our photographs being among that content. The internet gobbles content and big corporations want the right to exploit your work for their own benefit, and they have more money to lobby with.

I think that ALL photographers should join one of the organizations that are out there lobbying on our behalfs. That's why I joined ASMP. I thought I should help contribute my dues money to them to help pay for the intellectual property attorney they are paying to  lobby congress to help shape any legislation so that artist's interests are represented. He gives us a seat at the table & a voice.
