New55Project

Others here may already have heard about this (in fact it may even have been posted here already - in which case please forgive me), but I found out only yesterday about a gent called, Bob Crowley, who is trying to,

"...enable the supply of a very high quality 4x5 (and possibly 8X10) negative material, for artistic purposes, that can be easily field processed, such as so-called "instant film" of discontinued Polaroid type 55, and get this to happen any way we can! We will need your help to make it happen."

This sounds great to me. I'd even settle for the lack of 665 if they could make a 55 equivalent. Anyway, I'm looking into it and reading Bob's archive so I'm still not completely up to date on hwo far he's got, who he's working with, what they think their chances of success are, but for those interested go take a look at http://new55project.blogspot.com/ You can also follow Bob on Twitter. He's @bobcrowley.

I'll be watching this space.

Sadly I could only shoot a few 55 Polaroid since they were discontinued when I managed buying  my4x5 camera, the prices for an expired box were costing far more than my polaroid back ! :o which I found outrageous so never bother looking at again.

I saw this yesterday & it looks interesting.

One of the things I'd heard debated over the years, among photographers, was what film was actually used in the 55 production. I'd heard PanX mentioned many times but never thought that could be possible. But maybe well eventually get the answer (and the film revival).

Yes I know... I'm delusional. But at least it's a good delusional, not a bad delusional.

I'm an eternal optimist.  I say this is not a delusion and that there are folks out there with the wherewithall to make all polaroid dreams a reality.    It'll be interesting to see where this goes - I need to learn more!

Yes, this bee the buzz about town. With the way things are looking nowadays with the new Impossible film, this very well may happen. Thanks to dedicated folk like Bob and the bunch. Good news indeed...
