loving wavebeat's colourful view there :)

back in Glasgow for me this week and adding to my processing backlog ... this film jumped the queue over more Venice stuff.  I might add a polaroid or 2 I took today later if I get chance to scan

I spent the day at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, mostly to look at Harry Callahan's pictures on display in the MFA's fairly new photography gallery--well worth the trek:  http://mfa.org/exhibitions/sub.asp?key=15&subkey=8636  Art museums are great rainy-day places for photography--architecture, people and, of course, inspiring things to study.

I had with me my Canon rangefinder (G-III) loaded with tri-x which I developed in Rodinal.

a couple of shots I've been working on in the darkroom.  The 2nd & 3rd one are there I think. The 1st needs just a little tweak...

WARNING: NUDES, NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

Okay now I've warned, I'll post URLs. Last weekend I had my first photoshoot with a model I actually paid. I did a few (clothed)  portraits and I've decided they've all come out kind of rubbish but I'll photochop them into something decent to show the model anyway. They're slightly too underexposed for B&W printing.

The few nude shots, however, are gorgeous.
So this whole past week I've been developing and printing. I still have two more sheets to develop and about 4-5 to print.

As Formula 1 and Mr Schumacher have returned today, here is a shot found on a contact sheet I never took notice of.
Taken through the rear of his former Ferrari at Spa Francorchamps.

Nikon F3 - Kodak TMax 3200 and Hamilton for this years championship.

I too agree--beautiful work.  I also looked at some of the other photos in your Flickr stream.  Good to see your newly rehabbed piano bench put to good use.  I'm partial to the claw-footed look.  It reminds me of my grandmother's furniture, some of which may have been her grandmother's.

I found 18 minutes this morning while I was baking rolls to set up a little still life studio and knock out a couple of shots of a tulip that Amy has been growing at school and which she brought home yesterday. The sun was out and the tulip had opened right out too. I used the Land Cam + close-up filter combo which meant that focus and composition were little more than an educated guess, but I'm gratified to find that my guesses are getting better with this setup and that it only took me 1 test shot before I had something I liked.

The ultimate aim is to see how these shots look after a bath in coffee, but for now here's one "au naturel" - it's my fave of the 4 or 5 I took.

p.s.
This isn't a scan it's a macro shot taken with my phone. Crazy innit?

Nope... not crazy at all. If it works, it simply works :)

I was wondering about something: is the tulip in a pot of water?
If so, I noticed that they usually don't last much more than 24 hours. But there's a trick to make them last a lot longer!
You take a sewing pin and you make a small hole on the stem just under the petals (just punch through so the needle sticks out both sides) . The hole is almost invisible but it reduced the speed at which water flows through the capillaries and makes the tulip last a very long time.

Yes, I print color.   It's relatively inexpensive.  I find it faster & with richer results to color correct & make final prints in the darkroom - rather than on a monitor for a Gicl?e print.

For publishing I'd even go so far as to say a b&w neg printed as a C-Print & scanned as grayscale will provide a better image than a scanned neg. Cheaper than a b&w print (the paper price difference is huge between color C-prints & b&w), you're just going for the right density.

I use a public darkroom for color and because the hybrid analogue/Gicl?e print has become so prevalent they are talking about taking out the color lab as it's losing money....

Gregor,

I'm echoing Tinm@n here - what film did you use, I just love the color tones!

What a great weekend of shooting!  I'm stuck inside with torrential rains that are supposed to continue for 3 days but I just loaded some 4x5 sheets onto reels tonight and will develop them soon - this will be my first time developing my own sheets and using my unicolor roller.   Fingers crossed!

Gregor,

The top & bottom are Portra 400VC. The top image I used a 80A blue filter stopped down four stops. The middle shot is Porta 160VC.

Typically it will take me 4 - 8 sheets of paper to get the balance and density I want.  @ 35 cents US each sheet that's not too bad....

Printed on Fuji super C matte paper.

Great stuff everyone, Heather I hate to be contrary but I love third one - they're all good.

Ed, the tulip 'warms the cockles' after the winter we've had/having.

I've really been struggling for time recently but got a few taken in London* a couple of weeks ago. I've just got round to scanning them.

* and yes I did get stopped taking them.

(just realised there's a sculpture in there)

Great stuff as always. I particularly like the colour of Gregor's shots. I have used 400VC a fair bit and love it. As for me, no weekend shooting, just weekend scanning from a recent trip. This was shot on 160VC.

Ann, thank you. It was a restaurant that I came across. It had been closed for some time, but, was insecure so I ventured in. It was kind of public and I saw a cop drive by a few times and was sure eventually he may check out my car, so I took 6 shots and made a hasty retreat - heart a beating!

No process as such, near decade old expired Polacolar not suitably stored will normally give of a slight blueish caste. As the photo's contain no other colors other than a blue sky, steel and concrete it easy to get the blueish effect further enhanced with an 80b filter up front preferred to a polariser. The filter and decay of the film will kill a couple of stops but on a day like yesterday no problemo.

I think your second photo was taken in the same place as the picture below.

Oops. Sorry I found out that flickr doesn't let you guys see Moderated pictures and cuz they're nekkid you have to list them as Moderate (ly safe) level.

Model Mayhem is less picky. If I paste these links it'll probably warn you and put you in Work Safe Mode but you can toggle it off at the top of the page pretty easily
