Panoramic Tripod Head
« on: December 17, 2009, 02:25:22 PM »
Hello all-

Long time, no see, but looking for some good old fashioned filmwasters bad advice.  ;D

I've got an assignment coming up in the next few weeks that will require the use of a Panoramic tripod head, so was hoping for some thoughts, experiences, etc. as to which to choose!

I am quite partial to the Nodal Ninja as they seem to be well crafted, and have great tech support and always seem to be improving their products. I know of quite a few panoramic photographers who swear by them. Also looking very nice (and I am partial to the company) is the Really Right Stuff gear which has the advantage of a quick release plate (though the price is even higher!). HOWEVER- both of these carry a pretty hefty price tag! And, while the income from the assignment will pay for the gear many times over (plus it's something I've been kinda wanting to get my hands on for a while), I'm still pretty hesitant to drop that kind of cash.

So, what's the difference compared to something much more reasonably priced like this: http://www.panorama-hardware.de/cgi-bin/framestore.cgi?action=link&sku=PM&lang=com

I could literally buy three or four of these 'cheaper' heads to make up for the cost of a Nodal Ninja or Really Right Stuff head. Any other (cheaper) options I should consider? Pros/cons between the RRS and NN brands?

And yes, I have looked into building some kind of contraption to achieve similar results, but unfortunately I am on extended travel at the moment so that just is not a possibility...

Any help much appreciated!

-Jason

that's the kinkiest subject line i've ever read on fw.

Glad to have achieved such a high distinction!  :D

Do I get a special filmwasters reward for that?
