My 10 y/o Nephew - talented or what???
« on: June 16, 2009, 01:04:36 PM »
On a recent holiday to Wales, I gave my 10 year old nephew my ricoh r1 loaded with a roll of delta 400 and told him to snap away.  It was the first time he'd ever used a camera, and has shown virtually zero aptitude regarding visual arts so far in his life (he's a great drummer though and loves John Bonham so clearly has more than a modicum of taste) so I was not expecting anything brilliant to come out when we processed the film last week.  Well, I was wrong.  Out of only one roll of 36 exposures, there are 15 frames that I would happily print without any cropping  - a much better success rate than my 35mm efforts.  Here are just a choice few of his shots.  I'm sure you'll agree he really does have a natural eye for composition etc.  I'm well impressed.

Brilliant! Far better than anything I produced on my first few rolls of film. I particularly like the second and fourth images.

So this means if I ever meet him again we can discuss Doctor Who, Harry Potter AND photography!  :D

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone - monkey-boy will be well pleased to read them.  I think we'll have to chalk this as one for the Nurture gang. He's a blood relation to my wife - I'm just an uncle by marriage. .

I've always doubted the whole "innate" arguement anyway.  ;D
