Back from Snowdonia
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:24:25 AM »
Just got back on Saturday from a week in the land of dragons, slate and boiled-up-seaweed-goop.

I had high expectations of some serious photography going on, but an accompanying 10 year old nephew, several emergency texts from Ed about a malfunctioning Sqa and grey dank gloomy weather put paid to all that.  I managed 3 rolls - pitiful.

I did manage to get up to here (http://www.cwmorthin.co.uk/)   with all good intentions of going into the mine and getting some low light shots, but the place scared the bejeezus out of me!  I stood at the mine gate with foul smelling air rushing up from the depths, tons and tons of waste slate hanging precariously over the entrance and saw the splintered wooden supports.I thought there is no effing way I am going in there! It was like the entrance to Moria - even the lake behind me seemed to harbour some strange movements etc.  seriously scary stuff.   to top it all, 3 ravens kept dive bombing me.  If anyone is thinking of going there, get there quickly - not even half of the structures I expected to see were there.  There has been some problems with off-roaders wrecking the site and also scrap merchants stealing all the cast iron machinery that was lying about the place.  shame.

I did make it hlaf way up mount snowdon (highest mountain in england and wales) until the said nephew could not go on anymore so went back down again - I suppose two halves make a whole so I can say I got to the top, but not down again (cant I?)

anyway - what I did take will be deved today and hopefully scanned and posted soon.

(Note: Leon, Ed here. I edited this post to link to my forum post about said Bronica issues. Hope that's OK)

Are you thinking of returning for next Halloween  ;D
Sounds like it would be a more appropriate time of the year...

Nice attempt to blame me for you lack of picture-taking prowess. Maybe if you'd had a proper camera like the Nikon D700 have managed a few more?

 ;D ;D

Take the train next time!  Or, for a different tack, make the lad climb Tryfan - there's a proper Man's mountain etc...

Only joking Ed. David, the train was only going half way because of repair works - that sort of helped us decide to quit ... The thought of an exhausted nephew being carried to the top and back down again did not really inspire me to carry on.

I don't blame you... besides, the nice views are almost always when going up the mountain and rarely at the top where you only get the large panorama.
