pentax 110.....worth springing for?
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:18:25 AM »
Ive seen a pentax 110 auto plus lenses for sale in a local 2nd hand shop.

Anybody out there used one?

How easy is it to still buy/process 110 film.

They're looking for ?40 for it.Is it worth getting for at this price ?

When its all said and done, you still have 110 sized negs. Not a big selling point I'm afraid.

I know 110 is getting hard to find in my region...
If you have patience, you could do like the subclub and cut & spool your film to 110 size... but I don't have this patience.

Patterson made some 110 spools years ago so you might be able to process at home.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

While I can still get 110 relatively easy in Japan (a bit easier than 127), and I was tempted by the lenses available for this litte SLR, I passed. As Gary says, a 110 neg is still a 110 neg. Small and scanned to a reasonable size just looks bad. Not toy camera bad, but bad bad.

Interested though to see if someone can contradict me - are there any consistently good 110 photographs available for viewing? Skj.

These are consistently good, but in a slightly weird way. The 110 mouth pinhole : http://www.pinholephotography.org/MS1%20%27Enter%27.htm

i really like 110. i'm a bit surprised by some of the negative comments on the film. to me 110 is sort of like super 8 movie film. some of the textures remind me of the derek jarman super 8  diary films.  i've only used the rather low end 110 cameras, but the results are easily on par with many other toy cameras. the main drawback is that they can be a bit of a pain to scan.  a few of my shots below for reference.

I actually picked one up a few weeks ago, Auto 110 with 3 lens and case for $36.00 on eBay... I have been shooting a bit of 110 to gear up for a series of test for the blog, and thought that I would try to get the best possible 110 shot I could, so I went for the Auto 110..

So far I have to say its a great cam if you like 110 and have a lab that will run it..

Thanks for the info and opinions. This all started while i was looking for a compact to load with colour to complement a b&w loaded gr1 .I pondered too long and missed the pentax.I went for an olympus XA. Great to use but the winding mechanism was dodgy(see below).I ve ended up with an olympus mju 11 .
The oral 110 pinholes suit my budget perfectly but since I would quiet like to stay married to Mrs euge... Ive decided to give that a miss.

Here are a few shots from the Pentax Auto 110... the one great thing about it are the 3 lenses- if you are in the market for a 'shooter' don't bother with the nice case ect, just get one one with the lenses. If you are looking for one for your collection (which I am now..) Then go for the hard case, filters and winder. I got one with the case, 3 lenses and flash for US $36 on eBay... love it.
