120 Developing - Oooops
« on: March 15, 2009, 06:26:40 PM »
Here we go again....

Playing with my Paterson spiral I noticed it comes apart to wider for 126/127(?) and for 120 film.
A-ha!
Duly widened it, disappeared into the downstairs loo and loaded an old roll of B&W onto the spool (after plenty of swearing amid the darkness!)
Dropped the spool into my Paterson System 4 tank (can you see what's coming next?)...

And popped the lid on.  Or more accurately didn't!
One thing I hadn't tested was that the lid actually fit the tank when the spiral had been widened!

Never one to be put off by common sense I threw my 300ml of dev and fixer into the tank and processed the roll, twiddling instead of inverting.  Holding the lid down manually.

After fixing and washing I stood back to admire my handiwork!

Half of the roll had been buggered by light leaking in, and the other half was processed perfectly, until the top inch which had neither sat in the dev nor fixer.

Another photographic triumph!

To which end... does anyone in the UK have a 120 size tank they aren't using?  ;D

Hi Chops

I don't have a spare tank, but there are loads on ebay all the time and they often go really cheap, I recently picked one up for 4 quid plus the postage. If you look for one that says it takes 2 x 35mm films that'll also take a 120.

"(can you see what's coming next?)..."

Hehe yes.  I did the 300ml thing myself.  I don't think you can call yourself a proper photographer until you've made that mistake :-)

I read somewhere that a juice container wrapped in aluminum foil works just fine :)

Though the amount of foil you would need probably costs more than a good used tank  ;D
