Following on from only tourists and oba-san use digital cameras, film in fashion is much alive, film camera blogs, we have a scree from my local 55-Station that touts its services for toy camera users, accompanying a photograph of a Holga it says something like 'Toy camera users like film, and with more people using toy cameras, we are the place to take them to...'

That Hasselblad setup is one I have and would highly recommend. For years I had a 500CM, which I love, but which I've always found hard to hand hold and so I was always tethered to my tripod. Then a couple of years ago I was in a camera store and they had a great deal on a 503CW demo, and on an impulse, I bought it (I wish I still had the money to be that impulsive!) That winder makes all the difference. I can hold it like a 35mm camera (albeit, a heavy one), and that has freed me up to make pictures of people that are not so stagnant because it's off the tripod. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I also liked seeing the Nikon FM represented there. My first camera was my FM, which just celebrated it's 30th birthday and is still going strong. That camera changed the direction of my life.

I'm glad that film is so popular in Japan! One question though: What is an oba-san?

I've always lusted after one of those Plaubel Makinas - they still hold their prices well though.

Here is my local Oba-san (auntie), or perhaps she is more an Obaa-san (grandmother):


They are usually found in the company of Oji-san (uncle):


and of course, digital photography holds the same appeal for them as it does to me; it is easy! Skj.

Another great insight into the world you live in. Skj. I follow the Tokyo Camera Style tumblelog on Tumblr and think it's a cool page...I think it would be even better if they let you add your pithy comments.

Oh and Francois, your comment made me laugh out loud so that I accidentally woke up my daughter. WHAT a one-liner!!
