I Made The Effort
« on: March 17, 2008, 04:29:29 PM »
This weekend saw me out and about with a camera taking some serious photos for the first time in ages. We spent the weekend down on the Kent coast visiting my parents which meant that there was time for me to actually stop being a Dad every now and then while we were out on a walk or eating in a cafe and find time to compose a shot properly while Jacqui and the grandparents held the youngsters at bay. Kids are almost 3 years and 8 months old respectively.

I can't tell you how good it felt  :D Doubt I'll get much good material out of it, but it was so much fun taking photos without having to rush every single one. Also, I'd just sourced a very sexy Yashica GTN Electro 35 from evilBay to replace the wonderful GSN that I'd had for years and which finally gave up the ghost last month. So, I'm keen to see whether the GTN is able to live up to the high standard set by its predecessor.

Only shot 2 rolls, but I had fun and for a couple of days felt whole again!!
 :) :) :)

I love that 'I'm back' after a lay-off feeling...

Am looking forward to seeing your Yashica produce particularly as I've just picked one up for 30 quid. Wasn't it Gary Numan that sang Are 'Friends' Electro ?  ;D

I just picked up an Electro 35 from eBay also.  This one came with the wide angle and telephoto adapters, and the associated viewfinder.  Seems to functions OK, but it doesn't make that characteristic "thunk" when you wind it.  I think that I'll just send it off to Mark Hama and have him to the CLA.  Mark used to build these things at the Yashica assembly plant, and is the expert on all things Yashica.  Reasonable too.

Cheers...

Then there's the 1970's cult movie, Electro Glide In Blue.

I never knew there were so many films/songs about one of my favourite cameras.

I had to dig really hard on these ones... Debbie Gibson isn't my usual repertoire :)
I couldn't find (though I haven't really looked) anything electro from Duran Duran, The Cure or even The Clash...

Maybe we should start a thread asking "What's your playlist" just for fun :)

Be my guest. I was going to start a survey about how many FW regulars are 'blessed' with children. A 'what are you listening to?' thread is no more off-subject than that.

Oh Ed.  I am blessed with children.  Photos close to home or of kids is about all I gets.  mostly the kids turn and run, so that leaves anything else without legs.  ;)   But, it was the kiddos which really got me taking pictures in the first place.  Got to get a muse where one can.  ;)

I do understand your excitement over a proper effort though. :)

...but it's the ones with legs that are usually more interesting.

Ed, I can empathise with you. My children are now 5 and 4 and we pretty much all stick together as a family so everyone is around when I take most of my photos. Here is a typical example of my usual "tao of photogpraphy" moment...

Great photos, guys. Karls' one takes the biscuit though. Classic. Here are a couple of me from 2 years ago - we've since had another baby, but neither is able to fit into the handy backpack so I'm expecting to be jumped from now on a la Familie Chapman (leon's edit - wrong Carl Ed!).

Ahhh Electro blessings.
Here's one of my blessings taken with my Electro 35 GTN a couple of years back now...
