Towns with cool names...
« on: March 20, 2008, 03:27:02 AM »
i was on spring break last week, so i went on a little road trip with a friend to some of the small mountain/high desert towns. places like kirkland, morristown, yarnell, and coolest name ever, skull valley. i wanted a break from my 195, so i bought a minty (after scrubbing the dirt off) colorpack III for $5 and used one of my packs of expired UV-ID. i love the colors this film has. almost a violet blue tone (true ultraviolet?). and some 667, too. camera is pretty sweet. has a great depth.
anyone else shoot anything interesting?

wow, those are beautiful. such interesting colours too.

last weekend, i went to a temple i don't often get to as it's a little far away(ie my scooter would probably not make it there). they were having some sort of procession/ritual. so i managed to take a few shots with my diana. the bw image is 667 shot in the polaroid 450.

I have an old neg somewhere from a bike trip that I took over twenty years ago now of a town called Hellsville.  I am traveling today or I would try to dig it up.

And Susan, I am coming back through LA this weekend if you are in town...  Working in Santa Barbara on Friday, so time is a little tight, but I am always up for roller skating or spearfishing or something.  Leaving Sunday.
My chopstick is really a love poem.

Well, I know I stumbled on a list of odd city names...
The list is aptly called "The worst city names in the world"

Well worth a read for a good chuckle :)

there's a village in Oxfordshire called Great Coxwell (think about it ....) - always gets me a-giggling.  As does Chipping-Sodbury.

I'm glad to see Thong on there - I must have driven past there a hundred times going to see my Gran who lives nearby, and it still inevitably raises a chuckle.

A favourite closer to home is Blubberhouses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blubberhouses

I know that for all those who want to safely travel through France, a short visit of the town of Condom is a must!

I think they must have heard all the puns in the book :)

One for the novices - in North Yorkshire there's a town called Sexhow.

Not forgetting the classic West Sussex villages of Upper Dicker and Lower Dicker.

I sadly must announce that I probably live in one of the most boring Provinces... almost every village is named after a Saint... Boring  :-\

I grew up in Germany and we'd frequently travel back to the UK at holiday times. One of the highlights of the long car journey through Germany and Holland to the ferry terminal was the stop off for chips and a drink at the Dutch border town of Wankum.

"Special sauce on your chips, sir?"
