On the left, it's a Bausch & Lomb 12" projector lens, f7.7, wide open for /3.

And the vertical is a Rodenstock APO-Ronar 360mm barrel lens, f9 for /2.

Both taken on a Triple Victo Whole Plate camera with a new reducing back I just made.  Packard shutter.

     

I'm interested to hear if'nwhy people prefer one or the other 'cos I can't make up my mind between 'em !!

The one on the right for me. Tighter, less complicated. Also, I've never seen bokeh like there is in the one on the left. It has concentric rings in the highlights and I find that distracting.

Yeah, I chose the right one for much the same reasons. Simpler, stronger composition. And I love the focus on both the apple and the tips of the flowers.

Thanks, that's a bit my inclination too on account of the compo ... though that's fighting my general urge towards landscape format.  The doughnuts are unpleasant, but they weren't really apparent until I resized downwards.  I'll try to compare these lenses with some different textures and lights.

i prefer the one on the right for composition, but i like the slightly darker tones on the one on the left. it's pretty amazing how flat and yet 3 dimensional at the same time these seem.
