Possibly Silly Large Format Question...
« on: February 27, 2008, 08:26:57 PM »
Okay- This might be a ridiculous question, but as I have no experience in the matter I have no idea!

When shooting large format film, how does one get it to the lab to be developed? Do I just put it back in the box it came from and bring the whole lot in to them?

By the way, I'm not using film holders... just large format pinholes. I figured if it were in the holders, one might just bring the holders in to be unloaded in the lab?

Uh, yeah forgive my ignorance... Thanks!

Why not develop it yourself - assuming its b&w just dev in trays - easy, fast and  cheap too!

I have several spare 4 x5 film boxes just for this purpose.

My lab will unload the film from a holder but they charge 25 cents to do it.

If you have finished a box, use that.

If not, most labs have cardboard filmboxes lying around just for this purpose. You could just go to the lab you'll be using, and ask them, and they will likely give you a box or two.

Kodak and Fuji make (or made) readyload film. These are regular 4x5 film is paper holders like Polaroids. You need a special holder (also compatible with the Polaroid back) but they weigh next to nothing :)
