Maybe I'm daft, but I need help
« on: July 06, 2023, 07:38:37 PM »
Like a broken record, I'm back with a curious problem on my Sears KS Auto camera.
It's a Ricoh at heart, so here goes...

Fresh batteries are installed.
It works most of the time, but occasionally  the mirror will hang up and not trip the shutter.
I cannot wind it on, but....if I change the shutter speed from Auto, to the X, the shutter will trip.
THis model also requires the advance lever be in a stand off position to fire, so it's not that tripping me up...
Any ideas.
I've had the bottom plate off and don't see any oddities there.
thanks in advance.

Does it have mechanical speeds or is the battery used just for the meter?

The X sync and bulb are mechanical. The rest require power

Sounds like an electrical problem if it fires on the mechanical speeds. Following my principle of checking the easy things first, have you tried new batteries and cleaning the battery contacts? Otherwise I would suspect a contact problem or a sticking release magnet. You can get the repair manual (for the Ricoh XR-2S) from here https://www.ebay.com/itm/314611692655?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 if you want to dig further.

I know that electrical gremlins always scare the heck out of me. You really need a fine point soldering iron and a lot of patience to fix those.
