Weekend June 9 - 11, 2023
« on: June 09, 2023, 06:31:19 PM »
I just got back from working in beautiful American Samoa.  I shot a roll of Konica IR 750 in my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 532/16.  Unfortunately it got a heavy dose of X-Rays and I used the wrong developer so it's a bit grainy.  I totally forgot that Rodinal doesn't give great results with this film, so I think that was the biggest problem.  I sent several rolls of color film to the lab so I'll have a lot more photos in the coming weeks.

Samoa?
If I didn't know you clean-up contaminated stuff, I'd say you're living that jet-set life  ;D

This site was especially tough, wearing a hazmat suit in that heat and humidity is not easy.  Add to that neutralizing acids in a 55 gallon drum, imagine the heat coming off that reaction.  In two and a half weeks I had three days off.  When I go somewhere like that I take full advantage of my time off to explore and enjoy the experience.  It may not be an easy job but I do enjoy it.  I've been to American Samoa 3 times in the last 30 years and ever time it's an amazing experience.  I'm probably going back again later this year to finish up this site.

Testing a film I have only used once earlier, the Rollei Superpan 200. I'm exposing it at 400 ISO. The first film came out far too overexposed so I closed down one stop on the next which came out far too underexposed. I might have to try a different developer.

Nice start, and I like the added character of all that grain Bryan. It really lends some personality.
Kai-San, I really like the cows near the water. It's a soothing image.

My offering is from a new to me Spotmatic SP, with my usual Arista swished in caffenol. Takumar lens, which I'm totally in love with. I posted a shot of it in the "I just picked up thread" if you want to see the little object of my affection.
I've taken to shooting random intersections around town and when I travel. I kind of like the documentation and the juxtaposition of some things I find later in the frames is fun to look at.

This particular one is silly to me because Whole Foods is building a huge store behind the Burger King. Contrasting food styles for sure!
THe Whole Foods is taking over an old KMart building since it's prudent to rebuild in prime real estate than to start over in a less prime spot around Albuquerque.

Nice shots all. I'm with Becky. I like the grainy rendition of the tropics. I don't have anything fresh, but I am working my way through a roll of Bryan's spectral analysis film. ISO 1 is killing me since the sun is refusing to come out since last November. Here's another from Mt. Laguna.

Thanks James, I’ve been thinking of shooting some of that film, your sunshine has been hanging out up here in the PNW.
