1:45 am, I go into the kitchen and hear a strange noise coming from the basement.
1:46 am, I go downstairs and hear the noise getting louder.
1:46 am, I turn the light on in the office.
1:46 am, I panic as there's water everywhere and it's coming from the ventilation duct.
2:00 am, I'm frantically cutting open the ceiling to try and figure out where all the water is coming from.
2:30 am, I'm rushing to go and close the water main to the house.
2:45 am, There's still water coming down from the ceiling. WTF.
3:00 am, Still cutting and pulling down the ceiling with a claw hammer.
3:30 am, I figure that the water is probably coming from the kitchen as there are no pipes in sight.
3:35 am, I inspect the kitchen and everything is bone dry.
3:45 am, I decide to open-up the access panel to the dishwasher.
3:50 am, I'm laying down on the floor in a huge puddle of water... found it!
3:55 am, I turn off the water to the dishwasher. and mop-up all the water that's under it. It seems to be coming from the solenoid valve. (the water pressure is always on the valve even when the dishwasher is not in use)
3:58 am, I turn off the breaker to the dishwasher in the basement furnace room... electricity and water, not really a glorious mix.
4:00 am, I turn the water to the house back on and it definitely was coming from the dishwasher. Gallons and gallons of the stuff was stuck in the basement drywall ceiling.
4:30 am, I'm washing-up as I'm completely filthy and stinky.
4:45 am, I put the dehumidifier in the office and try and get some zzzs.
10:30 am, I'm awake and inspecting the damage.
Lucky, no cameras or books were harmed in the process. I don't think my cell-phone will survive this.
I had a ton of important papers that got wet and are drying on the bathroom counter.
Wish me luck for the rest...
