Some more found photos
« on: May 20, 2021, 07:37:18 PM »
I was just looking through my stuff and I found you a few more found photos.
The first one is a sunset from a mystery spot on Kodacolor paper.
Second one is from a place called Port Lewis (Québec). I don't know how old it really is but just looking at the gas tanks, it must be pretty old.

These are great, I really like them. If I'd had to guess, I would have said the first was taken on slide film, there's something about the colours and contrast, but probably not, given the paper base.  And shots like this always make me wonder how the trees and views looks in the present day 30+ years on.

Just looking at the tanks, the picture dates back to the 1950's at most.
I tried looking at the signs with a magnifying glass but couldn't make out any text that would have informed me.
The tanks have the Shell Oil logo on them, but there are no gas stations left in Port Lewis...
I took Google Earth and went along the famous Route 132 that crosses the town looking for a building with a diamond roof... couldn't find one that matched the corner entrance on that store.
In that area, the route roughly follows the river with the other side being entirely farmland...
I know it's not near the river as no important roads leads there... besides, all you can find there are million dollar properties that get flooded every spring.

So I guess the location is lost to history...

EDIT: I just looked at the history of Shell Oil logos. The logo on the tanks was used from 1955 to 1961.
Before that, the text on the logo was white. From 1961 and on, the logo was inside a red square. So that gives a 6 year bracket of time...

Found a few pictures from the city of Sète in the Languedoc region of France.
They from a commercially sold set of pictures on actual photo paper!
Looking at the boats, this is really old stuff.

Definitely. I'm sure Sète doesn't look like that anymore.

Interwar, probably 1930s. You can see a car in the background in the second to last shot that helps to date it. A quick Google Street View shows some broad similarities remain, but not in detail. The tower next to the lighthouse is gone, but what looks like the foundation is still in place.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

The 1930's was my guess too.
The images are 5.7 x 8.2 cm which is close enough to 6x9 format. They probably were contact printed too.
