« on: July 02, 2020, 08:24:33 PM »
Hello everyone!

Does anyone have already used the Keks lightmeter? It seems it's a rather new device and there are no infromation about the method the captured light are calculated in time and aperture, but anyhow it's a cute thingy.
Cheers!Christian

I was looking at this a few weeks ago and found there are a few similar ones available now.  There's one from China that's a bit cheaper.  They are all similar just slight variations in design.  I don't have mush more info than whats on the web site.  I ultimately decided not to get one, I'll just keep doing what I have been, guessing, using my iPhone app and using an old light meter when I remember to bring one.

A quick search on ebay for "light meter" turned up more than ten thousand hits. Most of them probably in usable condition. Among the cheapest starting with prices around ten USD (included free international shipping) were brand new digital light meters from China. Makes you wonder if there is a need for a lot of new designs. I'd rather buy a used one to save some of the dwindling resources on this planet.

Until I saw the light and switched to incident readings with a Gossen Luna-Pro, I was a big fan of the Cosina Voigtlander shoe-mount light meter, which I think is the inspiration for all these new digital meters. I really like the dials and red arrow / green center LEDs. Having more than one button on a light meter is either overkill or poor design.

Well, my Sekonic has 4: ISO, Mode, Meter and power...
I rarely use mode as it's for switching to flashmeter, so that leaves 3 useful ones.

I actually just got my Keks meter. I had forgotten I ordered it and got a DHL notification earlier this week that a package from Taiwan was being delivered, so it was a nice surprise when it arrived.

It's a nice, small meter, but it didn't fit well on its intended partner at first glance...my Barnack Leicas. Disappointed, I looked on the bottom and found that the shoe mount can be shifted to the right (from its default position in the center), giving the needed clearance! The case is nicely machined aluminum and the buttons have a nice click when pushed. It comes with two spare plastic shoe mounts, an Allen wrench for installing/removing them, and a charge cable. Very simple instructions are on a sticker on the underside of the lid of its box. First impressions are good and while I haven't film-tested it yet, it meters close to my smartphone app (within about half a stop).

Good to know it's not entirely plastic.

One minor annoyance is that they tell you not to charge it using USB-C, yet the charge port is a USB-C connector. Included in the package is a USB Type A -> USB-C adapter. I don't know the specs of USB-C since I don't have many USB-C devices, but I just looked it up and USB-C can provide up to 20V.

They definitely should have considered that in the design as the risk of frying the device is there...
