Title: Anyone ever tried this....?
Post by: zapsnaps on February 20, 2017, 09:09:12 PM
Sitting wondering how to make life even more complicated for myself, I wondered if anyone on here has used old photographic plates that are offered on auction sites from the 1920s or before? If exposed at ISO 1, would I get anything? Has anybody tried in the last 80 or 90 years?

Suppose I could always buy a box and find out.

That would be impressive if you get something.  I say go for it!

I just went out on a limb and bought a roll of Polaroid Type 47. It was pretty reasonably priced, so the experiment/fun was worth it. Needless to say, I got didley squat out of it, but it was a little bit of fun at a low price point. I'm with Bryan. Go for it. If you shoot a few and get nothing for the effort, you can at least recover the glass and re-coat with AG-Plus.

My memory is telling me that Andrea bought a box of glass photo plates maybe ten years ago, though they were maybe post-war era.  Maybe you could message her.

Me too...
Did Heather Sullivan do this too? I'm trying to think. Maybe if you search the site you could get an answer.
Just google site:filmwasters.com glass plates

Yes I have done this. Used various plates over the years and still have some Ilford r25  4x5 plates waiting to be shot. here's one https://www.flickr.com/photos/schlapp/5122347819/in/photolist-LtUJQs-JKYhf9-kCQn4-8NDnxH-5qHAEU-4cBRp8-3MFAxU-GrW4Y-fj7dm-fj3E7-eYRTP-duz6h-cbhLV-bC8WV (https://www.flickr.com/photos/schlapp/5122347819/in/photolist-LtUJQs-JKYhf9-kCQn4-8NDnxH-5qHAEU-4cBRp8-3MFAxU-GrW4Y-fj7dm-fj3E7-eYRTP-duz6h-cbhLV-bC8WV).

I'm pretty sure I know someone that has shot glass, he's really into expired stuff. best tip he ever gave me was to use undiluted d-76 och be careful with the temperature -old emulsions can easily wash off, don't wash it too hard either.

If they were free, sure. But I wouldn't pay any money, but that's just me. I see that there was a Kickstarter for bringing back glass plates. Might try that.
