Title: Abandoned Turbine Hall.
Post by: Skorj on November 23, 2011, 12:18:31 PM
Built between the wars, abandoned perhaps forty years later, it still stands beside a mountain river well north of Tokyo. A spectacular location, and a brilliant building. All Bessa R3a / Avenon f2.8 21mm, and FujiPro400.

Mountain mists made it more interesting still.

I was lucky enough to have two great companions accompany me; listening to enka as we drove the night country roads, some reasonable food, and one night out karaoke to celebrate a birthday with a mama-san with the voice of an angel... Skj.

Really lovely work, Skorj.  That lighting was so lucky, it makes everything beautiful.

Can you explain a little more what it did?  Electrical generation?

I love the colours, I can almost feel the cold, crisp air. I love exploring old buildings like this espcially when they are old industry. It was Billy Connolly who said something like "there is nothing more still and quite like an abandoned factory."

Great light and colours. A cracking building too - looks like a good project if you feel the need to return.

Sorry, this was a quick post, and I did not take the time to explain. Yes, this was a hydro power station abandoned when the up-stream dam was increased in size and the small turbine hall capacity was over-taken by a much larger facility.

Much of the tunnels, control rooms, and overall facilities are still in place. All hardware has been removed though. Worth a journey back perhaps, and certainly worth more research. One day... Thanks all. Skj.

Lovely set of images Skorj :)

Normally abandoned places has that creep feeling but this one somehow seems so peaceful... I guess the colours of the foliages makes the difference.

These are really nice, Skorj.  I especially like the one from the control room.. The way the two wheels were bound together.  Great find.
