Title: Photography Show NEC 16 March to 19 March 2019
Post by: Late Developer on March 14, 2019, 03:42:04 PM
I know it'll be mostly about "the other type of photography" but I'm on a mission to find a properly comfortable camera backpack.  I have a couple in mind that I haven't been able to get to see in camera shops, so far, but the manufacturers are at the show.

Anyway, we're heading up there on Saturday and I wondered if anyone else will be there. If so (and if you fancy meeting up), please PM me so we can exchange contact details.

I'll bet this phrase is close to the top of the list of "words that have never been placed together in the same sentence in the entirety of human history" ;D

Perfect!

I won't be going, though I heard that a couple of LF shooters are meeting up inside the entrance on the Saturday at 11.00.  I thought about it and then remembered the 4 hour drive a couple of years ago ... roadworks and late traffic!

4 hours... that's small stuff compared to what we have in Montreal...

Uzbekistan, Holgas and Charles Binns has happened previously and, I suspect, may happen on more occasions in the future. You can also add "bicycle" to the list of unexpected words as I suspect Charles will be biking his way round the place.

The Photography Show was, as expected, a digi-fest. However, I managed to avoid all of the main camera / lens manufacturing brand stalls and concentrated on a lot of the peripheral stuff - which was really interesting. One thing that really caught my attention is "emulsion" produced by Ilford that can be painted onto any sort of paper that will go through an inkjet printer.  As I don't have a traditional darkroom these days but still like to see prints, I might give that a whirl.

I managed to pick up a new camera backpack to replace my battered old Lowepro Mini-Trekker AW (which I've hated since the first time I took it for a walk lasting more than a couple of hours).  The new one will be accompanying me on an imminent(ish) brief trip to photograph Northumberland and the NE coast. I'll be using film (and not film) so I'll try to post a few film shots later in April.

It’s my first visit to Uzbekistan but may not be the last. It’s a fascinating place with a rich culture and history. No bike this time though.  It’s not the best place to cycle round. Too large and too much desert for this old fart!

So I’m taking advantage of the rail network instead and am getting ready to head back to Tashkent from Khiva as I write this.

You can expect other random  combinations involvinglittle known countries and holga coming from me.   I suddenly find myself having 5 months holiday for the first time since 1987. So I have to make the most of them.

Ahh yes, Charles, it was another "stan" you visited last time and not the Uzbeki variety...!

I'm heading to the somewhat less exotic Northumberland coast for a few days this coming week. I've decided to take my Zero 2000 6x6 pinhole and my Holga 120N as they've been neglected for such a long time.

It's been a long time coming, Francois.  Aside from Christmas and New Year, it's the first days off I've been able to take in 8 months.  I lived up there from 88 to the end of 94, so I know my way around fairly well.  I'm just hoping for dry weather.  "Sunny" is almost too much to hope for....

I haven't been on more than a daytrip since 1987........
It's been all studies, summer classes and permanent job hunting ever since...

The only time I staid at the hotel was when we had the floors re-varnished. I didn't want to loose any brain cells due to the heavy shellac fumes so we slept out for one night that time.
