Title: OT: That's how bad the season is around here
Post by: Francois on February 28, 2019, 03:34:41 PM
When I keep complaining that Winter is pretty bad this year, I'm talking for the region around Montreal.
But when you go outside the region, this is what we have

They say in the paper that when you're at that point, there's no other thing to do than laugh...

Really a strange winter this year. Over here in Germany it was unusually warm this week. Up to 20 C. Normally we get these temperatures end of April. I have seen the first ice cream bus already.

And yet, all I've seen here so far are iced buses! :)

Normally ice cream trucks don't come out until may.
Though in Sept-Isles on the north shore (a 14 hour drive from here), they eat soft ice cream in January!
That's the place where they have 24 foot high (over 7 meters) snow banks right now.

This is the 3rd coldest February ever recorded in Seattle.  I still have snow on the ground from 3 weeks ago.

Last year, we got "the beast from the east" (a rarity for a small island that benefits from the gulf stream) and this year we've had a couple of frosty mornings and a record warm spell for February.  I know Scotland and the north of England have had some snow but, as I understand it, nothing that exceptional.

The seasons are all over the place.

On the SciShow channel, they had a good explanation on why we're getting such cold weather this winter thanks to global warming. It's surprisingly counter-intuitive but it makes sense

What worries me the most right now is that with all that snow we're having, it's going to be quite problematic when it actually melts...
And since snow takes up 10x more space than water, we're bound to have a major flooding problem in the near future.
