I'll start this weekend thread with a new chapter in the saga about the Kodak Ultra 400 film that a friend of a friend of mine was pushed to accept for free in a photo shop in a small German town and that finally ended up in my fridge. I've been shooting this film at box speed, at 200 and 100 ISO and it just looks crap. So a few weeks ago I decided to give a toss about friendly advice in this forum and exposed it at 800 ISO. Well, you've probably guessed it, but this film has never looked so good! Less grain, saturated colours, I just love it. :P
-
Hmm. I have some Ultramax in the freezer. I'll need to try it at ISO 800.
I had a rare opportunity, last weekend, for some "then and now" images. Collings Foundation is currently touring the West Coast with some WW 2 era aircraft, covering Sacramento north to Seattle in June. (See https://www.collingsfoundation.org/events/ (https://www.collingsfoundation.org/events/)). I caught the tour at John Wayne/Santa Ana. Long story short, I now have two sets of aircraft images, separated by 75-odd years:
- B-17: one of the 13 original prototypes, displayed at the Golden Gate International Exposition (aka San Francisco Worlds Fair) in 1940; and a late wartime production version, B-17G
- P-51: warming up at an RAF airbase in 1944; and a late TF-51D (trainer version with double cockpit)
My images were taken with the Leica M4-P, 35mm and 50mm Summicrons with yellow filter, and Fomapan 400
-
Reminder: I've got to rescan my airshow photos from back in the 1980s - the digitized copies I have now are awful....
Anyway, here's more color. I am milking these rolls for all they're worth, mostly for want of newer work.

There was a mini Filmwasters get-together last weekend here in Philly, with myself, Miguel C. and Satish. Also along for the ride was Miguel's lovely cousin Diana, who enthusiastically made images with her iPhone, so damn her. ;D
We were out for a few hours of drinking, eating and shooting. I made seven mostly lame exposures. Here are three of 'em.

Most importantly we had a good time, and I got to see the Yashica that Satish troubleshot in the "I just picked up" thread. It's a great camera that he ruined all by himself. ;-) Actually the lens rehab looked pretty good to me, and hopefully Satish has an image or two from the weekend to share. Sometimes imperfect lenses make perfect images.
Happy weekend everyone.

Kai: Did you process those in C41 normal? I shoot in-date Gold (aka, Ultra, aka, Ultramax) at 1600 then push in C41 about a stop and a half. The colors really pop and there is increased contrast and pleasant grain. Is your stuff in date or expired?

Great shots as usual, everyone. I love the diversity of the weekend threads, it's incredible. Jeff, the dog is brilliant, it looks so friendly. O2Pilot, the parking lot is great. Great shot of the Flat Iron, Miguel. ManuelL: déjà vu. ;)
Here're two black and whites from me. Both shot with a Zenza Bronica SQ-A on Fomapan 100 using an orange filter. Developed in Caffenol C-H (RS).

My Ultra 400 films expired in 2005 and has been processed as normal C41 by a lab. No dirty tricks. :)

Kai, I think that the very graphic-like look of you compositions is greatly supported by the colours of the cross processed film.
Max, how did shoot the mirrored shots of the tower? I suppose it's a double exposure? Well executed!

Cross processed? This is expired C41 film processed in C41 chemicals.
-
Sorry, yes, I misread your post. Still very beautiful colours.

Thanks cs1. You are correct it is a double exposure, taken on an EOS620. First tower was with the camera the regular way up, then flipped the camera 180 degrees and took the same shot again.
-
I love that double, too!
Mine is from a roll of Ektachrome 64T that ended up being pretty badly fogged :( (haven't been doing too well on eBay purchases lately :D ) It wasn't as bad as my "desert Ektachrome" that I ended up shooting at ISO 6 and pulling 1.5 stops in C41, but it was bad enough that the first roll was unuseable. So, going off of my ISO 6 experience, I tried shooting it at ISO 25 (just +1.3 stops)and pulling about a stop in C41 (2.5min). It still came out a bit fogged, but my scanner didn't mind and I'll go ahead and call this a win :)

Stuck a roll of Ilford PanF Plus in the Zeiss Ikon Box Tengor on Friday. Quite happy with that. Even that close focus one worked out well.

This weekend’s thread seems exceptional. There is so much interesting work. The Fuji Kaleidoscopes, the “then and now” pictures, the twin towers, all stand out and then there is the beagle (my favorite).
Here are recent snaps of the occupants of our house.

Zenza Bronica ETRSi using a PE 50mm f/2.8 lens. Kodak Plus-X (expired 10/2003) developed in Beer. Next time I shoot this film I'll adjust the exposure a bit and develop it in Rodinal, the beer didn't agree with it very well.
