Ed, I was just thinking the very same thing.
The worst of it is the ghould who congregate round the remains - i.e. some of the ill-judged and ill-informed comments on the thread below the photos. My earliest ever memory to do with photography goes back to when I was 4 or 5 (mid-60s) when my dad had a Rolleiflex (or Rolleicord, I can't recall which). I was fascinated by that camera.
A real shame to see the factory that made the Rolls-Royce of TLRs looking so sad.

It is sad. Never owned a rollei, but they were nice cameras and used and loved by some great photographers.
I hadn't read the comments section until LD pointed it out. Now I wish I hadn't.

I recently picked up a Rolleiflex SL35M (there's one on the far left in Lot 1043). It's a strange, charming piece of gear, elegant and clunky at the same time, like the dream of a late '80s camera built in the mid '70s. I catch myself holding it just to hold it, and appreciating the really beautiful matte interior (no foam light seals).
I can't imagine how the staff must have felt when they were asked to abandon ship. So strange to see the workspaces left mid-work.

I'm with you all on this....lots of different emotions stirred up by Ann's link :-\ Usually, I'd steer clear of looking at the page too (as Francois says) because I knew what was in store for me, but I felt bad that no-one had replied to Ann's post so I took a look. Now, I've made everyone else feel bad too.
We're having a 'Group Sad', but that's what friends are for, right?

I think that what makes things worse is when you realize how good their stuff was and that it fell out in favor of cheap semi-disposable plastic stuff...

It's one of those sites that attracts a lot of trolls; completely clueless but utterly certain. I've tangled with them in the past, when it's been an important story that I knew was incorrect, but on something like this I wouldn't bother trying to debate with them. I just picture them wearing housecoats and fluffy slippers with big pink curlers in their hair, typing furiously, and I go on about my business.

That sounds like a plan. The only thing I know about most things is that I need to know a lot more. I'm more than happy to share my opinion but I never expect people to agree as they will have their. The guys on that forum do seem to be very "certain" as you say. The "live and let live" approach I've found on FW is the reason I've enjoyed being here and stayed interested for so long.
