The next in my Subway Series. This came out VERY underexposed (the XA must have exposed for the fluorescent lights), so I had to boost everything heavily in Lightroom, giving it that characteristic "I boosted everything in Lightroom" look which I sometimes like (for example, now :) )

Two pictures of the same scene taken with different cameras.

First is with the Fuji Instax 210 (wide).

Second is my first try at Impossible Project color film in an SX-70.
At some point, I'm going to have to pick the brains of you IP users. All my shots came out very overexposed (some salvaged with software) and the last few were also quite blurry. Not sure if it's a camera issue - first time using this camera - or if there's something more I need to know about IP film.)

: Kai-san March 08, 2015, 10:24:13 PM
With Impossible film you should set the Lighten / Darken wheel to about two thirds to the dark, that will give you much better pictures. The nuisance about the SX-70 is that this wheel returns to the mid position every time you close it. The other thing you have to observe is to shield the picture from light for the first seconds after it ejects. The latest films have improved on this issue, but it could still be a problem in strong light. Impossible has a special frog tongue for most Polaroid models that will cover the whole picture, I can recommend it. Otherwise you can use the darkslide from the film pack to shield the picture.
Using a Polaroid camera that do not have a Lighten / Darken adjustment with Impossible film is simply not recommended.

Good to know. I did turn the dial as far as it would go towards dark and I used my hand to shield the print as it came out of the camera. As soon as I could, I pulled it out of the camera and stuck it into a drawer. The last four shots that I took this way all ended up blurry, like motion blur, and they all still have that yellowish-cast.

I haven't scanned them all in yet, but I was going to start a thread to see what, if anything, could be sorted out to determine how much of the problem was a) the film, b) the camera, c) my error.

I wish it weren't so expensive :(

Hi Leonore, by the way you describe it I would start looking for holes in the bellows. It seems that the rollers are ok since the picture is developed. There is of cause the possibility that you have a film pack with a production error, I don't know if you have tried more than one pack. Does the picture eject straight after you push the button, or is there a long delay? If so there could be a problem with the light meter.

Oh dear, I forgot to ask the most obvious question; what type of film are you using, SX-70 or 600? If it is 600 that explains everything, the SX-70 is made for iso 100 film (SX-70). But there is a fix for that; an ND filter on the lens or an ND plastic film that goes on top of the film pack. I've got both types lying around unused if you need them.

My sincerest apologies for such a late posting! I am been super busy lately and I need to get back in the loop of shooting regularly. I was intending to scan them this weekend but had technical difficulties. I didn't want to leave them for next week or I would use that as an excuse to be lazy and not shoot  ::)

Proof that a good lens and good exposure does play a large part in it.
