they're pretty cool! he and I was part of the same group exhibition in gothenburg last year, I just had a short chat with him though.
here's a shot of me at the exhibition by some prints and a friend of mine that stood beside ignas. you can see the camera there infront of a mask.

Oh dear. "Cool" is not a word I'd associate with those contraptions - or selfie photography in general. I was half expecting a Zero 2000 attached to a "selfie stick" or "narcissist's wand" as I call them. However, some rudimentary Meccano head brace seems somehow more appropriate :o

a "selfie stick" or "narcissist's wand" as I call them.
This might be the best thing I ever read on the Internet.

... I still have a few old construction hard hats lying around the garage... I may turn them into some sort of project...

A narcissist's hat?

I saw some selfies where the photographer posed smiling at crime scenes. I thought it was a great idea but the execution was lacking.

Western culture is circling the drain and the 'selfie' is the poster child. The more we 'focus' on ourselves, the faster we sink. Sorry about the rant, I just find it discouraging that this insidiously infectious staple of digi-phone pics is now invading what I have heretofore thought of as one of the last hold-outs of photographic artistry. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be the "fun police" or squelch someone else's creativity, but really? Pinhole selfies? Okay, rant over.
-
Thank you LD and jharr for ranting for me, now I don't have to. Instead, I will add to LD's joke by calling it a +1 wand of narcissism :D

The same could be said for social media in general. Promoting your popularity (Facebook); showing off your snark (Twitter); displaying your good taste in porn (tumblr). Its all about curating your persona for consumption. There's something very deliberate and calculating about it that real interpersonal interaction usually subverts.

I've got an idea! I'll invent the reverse selfie!
I'll make the same contraption but expose the back of my head instead... that's what I call in-o-va-tion! ;) :P ;D
-
lol I have the selfie thumb version of that. :-\

I have an even better idea for a reverse selfie: you put the device up to your eye, and instead of taking a picture of your eye, it takes a picture in the opposite direction! In effect, taking a picture of exactly what your eye sees. Revolutionary, I know. I think I'll call it a CAMERA.

That'll never catch on. Who wants to see photos of other people?? Where's the vanity?? You'll be all like, "Hey, look at this cool city scape photo I took." and your friends will be all like, "You aren't even in that selfie, you idiot! How do we know you were even there!?"
See what I mean? If you remove yourself from the context, then all you have is, well... context. People will be disoriented by it.

Good point. I just shut down the Kickstarter campaign.

Besides, who needs a camera when there's Google Earth and Streetview? ??? ??? ???
-
I've taken so many awesome "staycations" using street view :)
-
I know. And now that they've unlocked high res imaging for all, it's even better!
I still remember that time when I went to Winnipeg... fantastic time ;)
(I think all Canucks will get the joke...)
