Heys everybody,
I just developed 2 rolls of Tri X (in Rodinal 1:25) shot in different cameras, one a year ago and the other one today.
Sadly both show fogging in the middle (!!) of the film.
Any idea where this comes from? development? contaminated chemistry? Or nonsafe darkroom?

Contaminated chemicals... I doubt. The fog would be even.
I would be tempted to say it's an agitation issue or the film was not loaded properly...
Could be unsafe darkroom if you rotated the reel in front of the light leak...
Some would get a different take on it...
Is there any image visible?

chemicals with resepct to agitation could be an issue here (as francois says) - indicated by the streaks ruunning up and down - but i doubt that as it is quite subtle - also seems too subtle for a light leak in camera - and the fog is getting the centre of the film but not reaching the edges. what kind of tank do you use? I've developed films in my paterson style tanks without the central spindle in and got a similar fog - although it only got the edge closest the top of the tank - t It could, of course, be a mixture of different types - light fog, then poor agitation.
are you loading in a darkroom? try a changing bag to see if that makes any difference? I only load films in changing bags as my darkroom is full of light leaks - no probs for printing, but there is no way I'd get my undeveloped film out in there.

might be worth processing a cheap colour film through a lab just to check it isn't the camera, then you can eliminate that. Looks to melike the film has been exposed to light somewhere along the line

AO: There are images visible, some even quite ok, but still you have this slight swirled fog in the middle.
I have actually seen tiny leaks in my bathroom while getting the film on the reel but i was 2 meters away... they were so tiny that still the darkroom was blck even after me being 10 minutes in there.
Leon: it?s strange because I had both reels in the same tank ( old jobo one i think, i didn?t have problems with it in the past.) one above the other. But as a result both show the fog in the middle... crazy I think. I usually load the film in sunlight :S but never had a problem.
Karl: I know it?s not in the camera because the films were shot with 2 different ones, one of them just serviced, so it?s very unlikely I think.
Oh well I think it might be some chemicals-issue because I remember having a similar problem on a 120 fim a year ago..

i was referring to loading the film onto the developer-tank reel, not into the camera. As AO said, it is unlikely to be chemicals as the effect isnt even across the film

I know when you over-agitate reels with 35mm in them, you can see the developer flows through the sprocket holes...
