: The Ruluos Group.

The Ruluos Group are the remains of three temples to be found just to the east of the Cambodian city of Siem Reap (famous for it's proximity to Angkor Wat).  The temples were among the first permanent structures by the Khmer people around the ninth century and they mark the beginning of the classical period of the Khmer civilsation which eventually culminated in the construction of the Angkor Wat complex.

There are three temples in the group: Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko.

The first and largest of the temples is Bakong, a sandstone temple mountain consisting of a stepped pyramid at the centre of three concentric enclosures.

The temple of Bakong is guarded by a Theravada Buddhist temple.

The second temple in the group is Lolei which consists of four brick towers built on a terrace.

Preah Ko (which means sacred bull) consists of six brick towers arranged in two rows of three.  The temples are popular tourist sites and the young children of the locals who sell goods outside the temples have a remarkable playground to spend their days in.

All the shots you've posted from Cambodia have been really atmospheric. These are all taken with a Holga, right? Whatever you used, it was remarkably well-suited to the subject.

Thanks O2.  All the shots were taken with Holgas loaded with either Portra or TriX.

Very interesting. Nice pictures too. And with a Holga. Just goes to show that the most important part of the camera is the 12inches immediately behind it.

Lovely set of photos, Charles.

Lara and I were due to visit Thailand and Cambodia in 2012 but had to cancel due the impact of the severe monsoon flooding. This was a site I wanted to see after having seen Richard Murai's series in LensWork some years ago (you can also see them on his website).

One day, maybe.....

Beautiful series, some unexpected subjects with the kids between the temples.
