Hi All,
I just thought I would ask what your favourite photography books are?
It's my birthday today and the wife has kindly bought me The Suffering of Light by Alex Webb; its an amazing book with some beautiful photos characterised by their intense colour. Has me reconsidering my fresh pile of HP5 already!
I think it may be my new favourite?

I have some great books by Don McCullin, Denis Thorpe, Jane Bown, Elliot Erwitt and many more masters of B+W

Well, I still have a soft spot for the architectural pictures of Julius Shulman's book "Architecture and photography" (Taschen)
Ansel Adam's trilogy (the camera, the negative, the print) is pretty interesting, though highly technical and really not recommended for beginners.
I also like Edward Weston (Taschen) and Color Photography (Assoulines).
Oh yeah, there's also What did you shoot this weekend? by a small little known group of photographers. From memory it can be found on Blurb. ;)

A few good suggestions here.
I remember studying Don McCullin at school; his images are so powerful.
I hadn't come across Julius Shulman, but I am interested in getting better at architectural photography, so have just ordered one of his books for £3.69 from Amazon; I'll be asking questions about tilt shift lenses before the week is out!

Lets just say titl-shift was only one of his tricks. He had plenty more that he used to get those gloriously beautiful images!

If you get chance look at Don McCullins book In England another good book to look at for B+W photography is Young Meteors

I cast my vote for "Chased by the Light" by Jim Brandenburg. (ISBN 1-55971-800-5)
A superb set of images taken over a ninety day period. Just one shot per day, and then put the camera away, no matter what else presented itself.
I bet the publisher had a fit when he plonked just 3 rolls of film on the desk.
Brilliant stuff.
