Based on James' stellar results in last weekend's thread (http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=7258.msg93279#msg93279), I decided to try my hand at redscaling the same expired Ektachrome I sent him. The redscaling itself worked surprisingly well given that it was my first time ever. I did a pretty horrible taping job, but it held together fine. A tip for first time redscalers, that is probably obvious to everyone but me, is that loading the film into a camera and using the camera's rewind knob to pull the film back into the canister is a lot easier than trying to wind it in by hand :)
But anyways, results. For comparison, this is that same Ektachrome (not redscaled) shot at 25 and xpro'd in C41:

Now the redscaled photos. Also shot at 25 and xpro'd in C41. Not too terribly redscaley, but at this point we're xproing and redscaling, so we're just going to end up with some crazy colorshift :) James, did you do any color correction in post?

Yes, I scanned with no correction. Then in PS I corrected the levels and then "auto" corrected color. I suppose you could correct each channel, but I am lazy and I liked the look I got with the built in algorithm. I think it will reduce some of the greens, but ultimately it is just up to what you like. I usually try hard not to go overboard on manipulations in post, but rescale requires a little more "management". Glad to see your experiment worked out!

Interesting. When I "auto" correct in LR, it gives me a slightly different sort of color shift (a little less green, a little more yellow). But if I use the eyedropper and select an area in the shadows, it turns out like a redscaled CN photo. Interesting. However, I prefer as little color manipulation as possible, so I'll just treat these as an interesting experiment and default to the non-color corrected versions above.

is it just me that's not seeing these shots?

You are not alone Jonas, no pictures visible here either.
Will soon be developing a roll (once all the hoo-ha with respect to my Wife's 40th dies down) I exposed a few weeks ago. Kodak Colour Plus (rubbish film anyway) I rolled back to front myself. have no idea if I got the EI right, we will see.

Oops! Sorry, I changed servers last week so all my old links will be broken :P I've updated the links above, thanks for pointing it out!

Now that I know how easy it is to redscale a roll, I've taken a roll of Ultramax (which I lovingly refer to as Ultras**t ;) ) and rerolled it. I'm shooting it one stop slower than box speed (ie, 200)

thanks for fixing it :) that's some trippy shots!
