				Hi All
We've decided to let the magazine idea go. It was a good idea, with lots of initial enthusiasm, and some hard work and effort, for which we are grateful.
Ed and I had a chat last night and decided to mothball the magazine content for now ... but we dont want the work to just get lost, so we are open to ideas as to what to do with the articles that people spent time on.
One possibility is to post them into the articles board on the forum. We still get an amazing number of hits on that board, so the work will be read and seen.
Perhaps someone can take a look to see how many were completed?
It's sad to see this not happening to completion.
Any other ideas ??

I already posted my scanner article months ago. It was originally designed for a magazine format, but I thought it worked better for the article section.

				Hi Leon
I think that this was a great idea, which sadly didn't quite make it to fruition. I agree that the work shouldn't be lost & that the quickest & easiest thing to do would be to put then in the articles section.

How difficult would it be to get it to being a "webzine" - along the lines of f11 and Square Mag? I'm not suggesting the same production values (as they get advertising revenue, etc) but something in PDF format that people can print off or read on-screen.....??
Forgive my lack of IT / print savvy if that's still a big ask - as I am a mere insurance-wallah.....!!

Well... if you want to do PDF documents the easy and free way, there's two ways to go about it:
1- Get the Scribus desktop publishing program and Ghostscript. They're available on all OS and are very well designed.
2- Get PDF Creator forge. It's free and will make a PDF from any program that can print.
Both excellent programs I use regularly.
As for the magazine, I too was a bit p***** to see it not happening. But it's been dragging on for so long the wait is just excruciating.

I just had an idea... why not create a place for posting links to our own fanzines?
The files could be hosted on MagCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive or Skydrive. They could be made with the free software I talked about in my previous message.
While the photo essays are nice, there is something about a fanzine that is just fun.
That way, everyone could play editor, make some collaborations with other members to produce their own thing.
That would still be a lot of fun and a lot less work for everyone. Besides, the stuff we had planned for the magazine could eventually make it to print in one form or another...
There could be no rule, just like in the old Punk days (fanzines were really popular in those days). Make it as fancy or as grungy as you like.
Make it as big or as small as you like. No minimum number of pages. Just as long as it's available in PDF format.

I'm not much more clued-up either (though I have used Dropbox).
I was wondering what storage capacity exists on the FW website to set up another tab, say, next to the Forum tab, where such PDFs could be stored / posted. Or have I missed something obcious? Wouldn't be the first time  ::)

PDF's are not allowed for now.
As for Google Drive, you already have it if you have a Gmail account. Skydrive is the same but for Hotmail users (I so seldom use it that I forgot that it's now called OneDrive)
I personally use the Google Drive all the time. It works well, it's convenient and free.
Google drive: https://drive.google.com
Microsoft OneDrive: https://onedrive.live.com/

Sounds like an nice idea, but I could see maybe one or two fanzines actually appearing over the next five years. If people really were into making them, they would probably already exist. I think the section for personal projects/books/etc. is probably fine for this anyway, rather than adding yet another section.
I say stick the articles from the magazine in the article section...as you say, it sees quite a bit of traffic from the outside world.

I like having the articles in the articles section too...
It's just easier to go there to read about what others ore doing or have done, etc.    8)
Just my nickles worth.     :)

I guess you're right... Besides it's one less thing to maintain.

okay, I'm dumping mine in the articles section.
it's a good place for reference within the forum and a nice spot to put specific follow up questions in.

Just to add a quick note to Leon's original post to add a HUGE thank you to those of you who got involved with the magazine project. It's a enormous shame that it didn't get finished off and published in its intended form, but Leon and I both agree that we have to take some of the blame on that front. If we'd been around more and had been more involved we could have either taken it over and put it to bed, or kept the interest levels up across the magazine 'team' when people went AWOL etc. Sorry, for that  :(
Finally, I agree that the articles section makes the most sense for the the place where the abandoned content should live and I'm glad that some of you have already posted your articles.
