Hi All!
Just posting in advance the date of World Toy Camera Day 8)
October 18 is the date this year! Woo-hoo!
A lot of you participate, and some of you (Francois-hint-hint) even make posters for us to use and distribute so I'm just putting it out so you have plenty of time to plan and get ready.
Let's see some uber cool pix in 3 months!

To my shame I bought a Zeiss Box Tengor 4 years ago and have not put a roll through it yet. This sounds like a good excuse to load it up. What are the rules? Who do you submit entries to?

I still have an old Halina Viceroy in my cupboard that my mom's old aunt gave me maybe twenty years ago and that I've never tried!
I'm probably give it a try...

I think I'm with Bryan and will shoot my Hawkeye with a flipped lens. Especially since I want to try out my new FPP 620 spools! I think I will roll some Portra 160 and see how it goes.

I didn't flip my lens but I was able to load a 120 roll without re-spooling it. I'm still using a 620 spool for the take-up, I don't think a 120 spool will work in that position. It's a little tight when I advance the frames but it's not too bad. On some of the Hawkeye's there is a little metal tab on the flexible part that holds the spool on the left side of the camera. Since a 120 spool is a little wider than a 620 spool you may have to bend this tab, otherwise it won't let you close the back cover. Kodak did this on purpose when the found out people were just loading 120 film into the Hawkeye's. They wanted to sell more 620 film. Some of the earlier Hawkeye's didn't have the tab.

Hmm... I have to decide between my Holga and Konstruktor. OR I can finally clean up a raggedy Hawkeye I found in a junk shop a few months ago. I've also got an Argoflex I could play with.
I've put the date into my calendar so I won't forget! ;D

Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim for me with some old color.
Just dug it out of a drawer and tested it last week to make sure it works....
It's cool that so many Brownie flips are going out! 8)

Crikey! That's next week already...
Wondering if a Smena 8M counts as a toy camera. On the one hand it's plastic, but on the other hand the lens is pretty good and I was quite amazed how good the quality was for something that cheap and Soviet.

Well... because of its lens, I don't think it counts as a toy camera. But it sure does count for Red Camera Month which dedicates every October to former Soviet Union and Communist cameras.

I only got a Brownie Six-20. Does that qualify as toy camera? It is built like it will survive at least 3 generations to come. Otherwise I would get something from the internets.

Seems to me like it should. Meniscus lens, one shutter speed, fixed aperture - sounds like a toy camera to me.
I'll likely be using my Brownie Hawkeye with reversed lens.

Lets just put it simply: any camera made from a number of parts that you can count on your fingers is a toy camera ;)
And any camera that can melt in your car but not in your hand could also be a good candidate.
But the main thing is if the camera is crap, the lens is crap, it runs without batteries, has only one real shutter speed (no, bulb is not a speed), no more than three aperture values, uses waterhouse stops, doesn't or barely focuses... then you're pretty sure you have a toy camera in hand.
Just use your good judgement. When in doubt, the camera you're thinking about is probably too good for this :)

If it's in the shape of a cartoon character... you've got a toy camera.
If you can see the injection molding seams in the bright blue plastic... you've got a toy camera.
If you didn't notice that you put a big fingerprint on the lens, but you can't see any difference at all in the photos... you've got a toy camera.

If it came as a petrol station freebie, it's a toy camera.
If it has a Barbie on it, it's a toy camera.
If it comes with a big chunk of mystery metal in the base to give it weight, it's a toy camera.
If it says "Optical Lens" on the lens barrel, it's a toy camera.
If it says "Optical Lens" with a typo on the barrel, it's a toy camera.
If you tie it to a helium filled party balloon and it floats away, it's a toy camera.
If it has a "motor drive" that sounds like the Fisher Price lawnmower, it's probably a toy camera too.

Same here but I noticed the film advance was very stiff. Next roll I trimmed the plastic 120 reel flanges. I cut off the circumferential bead on each side using scissors. Wasn't very neat but the film advance is now a lot easier. On my Hawkeye the tabs people refer to are there but don't actually totally prevent you using 120 film, at least not Ilford product. The problem is the flange diameter which differs by about the width of that flange between 120 & 620 reels.
Shot a roll of Pan F yesterday, everything working OK on my 1959 Hawkeye so will be shooting next w/e.

I have a Sears 'Tower' 6X9 box camera I'm going to use. One aperture, one shutter speed +B and of course, no focusing. Strangely the shutter button is tapped for a cable release. That is good because because I'll be doggone if I'm going to use up a roll of my small precious stash of 120 film! Just too valuable and I'm too broke to buy more. That 'B' setting will come in handy because I'll just cut a piece of MGIV, load it in the darkroom, and make a paper negative to contact print.
If the first negative is too thin or dark I'll still have a chance to load another piece of paper. Ha!

Maybe you can get a few shots from there? It really doesn't matter how much or how little you participate. The main thing is to be in the spirit of things.

My Brownie Hawkeye is loaded and ready to go but it looks like I won't be able to participate :'(. I'm stuck in Boise, Idaho on an Emergency Response without it. I flew out here a week ago thinking I would only be gone a few days but now it looks like a few weeks. I did bring my new Kodak 35 RF to test it out but that wouldn't qualify. Kicking myself for not bringing the Hawkeye.

Done my part. Shot a roll each through my Brownie Hawkeye w/ reversed lens and Holga 135 Pan. Light wasn't great, but what can you do. We'll see what (if anything) turns out.

Finishing up a half roll in the Bencini 24s, and putting a new roll in the mysterious Pakmatic Lumina 35.

Just finished processing my roll through the Halina Viceroy.
Looks good for daylight shots, not so much for flash shots since it's not X-sync as I've just discovered.

Hobbled out into the garden and shot a roll of Tri-X with the Box Brownie. But light was bleak and dismal. Didn't push the film enough in development, so the negs are thin. Scanning later today.
The WTCD.com site is not up to date, nothing since last year. Apart from here on FW, where would one post one's images?

there's a site for it?? I always thought it was a bummed that it didn't have one like pinhole day. promoting that would be fun also seeing more shots from around the world maybe :)
