A friend of mine convinced me to dip my toe into the world of Twitter last night.

my feed is @wanderingholga

It would be good if other FWers could post your feeds here so I can follow you.

I'm with Gary. I'm not sure what it brings to the table for a group like this. If someone can enlighten me, I'd be glad to use it.

I think Twitter is worse than Facebook and that is saying something

To be honest, I have been very sceptical about Twitter for years -  as far as I could see only c list celebrities and cyber stalkers used it to publish inane or inflammatory drivel.

However, my friend says it is a great resource for finding interesting content on the interweb - you follow a wide range of twitterers and they post links to articles or other resources which you might find interesting.

Whilst this forum certainly provides alot of fascinating information about photography,  I am supposedly going to be able to use Twitter to gather more resources from the web.

It may all be tosh, and I recently reduced my "digital footprint" quite dramatically because I couldn't see the point of social media, but I'm interested in giving it a go.

If anybody wants to follow my Twittering, I promise not to twit every time I have a cup of tea or get into a twitting war with Paris Hilton.

@IndofunkSatish

I also do not get Twitter at all, but have been told that it's a great marketing tool and is gaining more and more market share. And is where the "cool kids" hang out, as opposed to Facebook. So I have an account, do not open it for months on end, then suddenly remember that I can promote a gig there so type something up with a flurry of # tags and @ tags and post it and nothing happens.

I like Twitter, Google+, Instagram, etc., because I get to know some of you in a different context. I get to see Sean's mornings, Ed's kids, Urban's latest camera sale.... ;)

But I do post my camera sales everywhere, don't I? ;)

There somewhere

I think it's like one person says something and see how many repeat it...isn't there a game like that somewhere?

I have 2 twitter feeds:

@GothamTomato (for photography and general stuff) and  @E20Launderette (for my British TV/PBS blog-related stuff).  Though I wish I had never divided myself into 2 feeds.

As to what twitter is for; I once did get a photography job from someone who I 'met' on twitter (and yes, it was legit). And I've know several people who got book contracts because they had large social media followings (including twitter). Publishers look for that now.

Glad I found this thread, just followed a bunch of you. I like the idea of this group but I almost never visit; I've grown lazy in my old age and I can't be arsed to go to web sites anymore on a regular basis  :)

i find a quick update of sporting events convenient and some links to various film related sites or photos posted by who I follow a quick scan of random works and such.

@asalinguist

I joined it when I started blogging to advertise my posts. I think it works better in terms of networking if you're consistent with it. It's also useful to get something like TweetDeck or something to sort out the feed so you can filter the interesting stuff from the noise. I've barely been on it for months, but when I do go on, I usually find some interesting link to an article or something. And I actually have experienced how you can sometimes get news faster on Twitter than on traditional news outlets. Kinda weird.
