This is a great series http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/10204874/London-Underground-in-the-1970s80s.html?frame=2628239 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/10204874/London-Underground-in-the-1970s80s.html?frame=2628239)
I moved to London in 1979 and travelled on the tube regularly for the next 20 years. I even remember when smoking was still allowed!

Great find, Paul. Beautiful and witty images.

Photo number 7 appears to show a young Jeremy Clarkson, before he could drive.

these are epic!

Great post, Paul.
I've worked in the City of London since 1999 and I visited London regularly even when I was working back "up North". Good to see that the Underwground (smoking and dubious hair and clothing styles aside) remains the grimy hole in the ground it has ever been.
I have what I call my 3-stop "rule". Essentially, unless the destination requires me to travel more than 3 stops, I walk as the Underground trains are usually packed, swelteringly hot and it is vastly over-priced.

Love these.
The girl with the pint glass is ace!

Great series. I love the one of the man and the clock, #9.

Excellent, Paul. Thanks for posting this.

I am obsessed with undergrounds. My present photo project is pay phones in the NYC subway. These images are much better than mine :D

I'm going to Glasgow in April, third-oldest subway in the world. Let's see if I can point my camera at the tattooed young Glaswegians of 2014 and get away with it! :D
Also, see a similar set of New York here: http://www.fastcocreate.com/3025540/travel-back-to-1981-new-york-with-these-photos-of-a-gritty-graffiti-covered-subway#10 (http://www.fastcocreate.com/3025540/travel-back-to-1981-new-york-with-these-photos-of-a-gritty-graffiti-covered-subway#10)
