I recently discovered http://www.fotovisura.com/home (http://www.fotovisura.com/home) and I thought I'd share it with folks here. It's a self-publishing site for photo essays -- personal, reportage/documentary, etc. For a site that apparently doesn't screen out stuff, the quality of work is pretty decent, with some real gems.
It's a chance to get exposure (hehe) and it's also a place where a number of folks have been "discovered" -- they have a long list of works first published there that went on to be picked up other places, like the NY Times Lens blog, NPR... (though I can't seem to find that page)

Thanks so much for this link. I've spent a good few hours looking at it and I'll be back for more. There is some very interesting stuff on there.
As a figurative snapper, I miss nudes on FW, but there are some very thought provoking figure studies on FotoVisura, so if that's an interest, pop over and have a look.
Having said that, many of artist's statements and notes to works are fantastically verbose and up themselves. Which is one of the things I really like about FW; members say 'here are some photos' and we are left on our own to decide if it's just a cracking photo or if it has meaning, a political point or an emotion. The viewer's response (for me) is all. I never attempt to explain or justify my work - it just is. Or perhaps it just isn't, as I lack an agent, gallery and print sales.

I can only agree, a lot of pseudo artistry and desperate attention seeking in there!
Thanks for the link tho, inspirational in an odd way..

I very much agree. There was once this "random artist's statement generator" website that I found very amusing for how interchangeable it revealed artist's statements to be, primarily because they all use the same generic fluffy words and "ideas."
On the other hand, I struggled with a need to provide context for my Sosua project and I appreciate the ability to do so on fotovisura...

And for other series where words add nothing but can only detract... no words
