Advice on what I did wrong please?
The first 1/3 roll came out similar and the rest of the snaps were ok - they would have been on the inside outside of the reel as they were last shots on the film. I did 2 films in the same tank and the other film processed fine.
-
was this the first or second film of the two processed?
-
I don't remember if it was the top reel or the bottom reel :-\

These are from the same roll of film (but on the
outside inside of the reel - first pictures taken)

Oh I thought that 2 rolls were processed one after the other. My mistake.
To me, it almost looks like some sort of contamination. I see fingerprints or what look like fingerprints. Is it possible that your hands were wet or sweaty while loading?
Did you mix your chemistry before or after loading your film? Would it be possible that you had some residual developer or fixer on your hands before touching the film? Though it wouldn't explain the blotchy pattern unless your hands were really wet. Enough to leave drops on the film as you spooled it.
What was your rinsing technique like? Did you let the film set for an extended period of time before fixing?
I actually like the effect created on the first image.
-
I tend to go straight from stop bath to fix.
Sweaty hands is a good point (probably the culprit) - I was fiddling about in the dark bag for a long time so my hands were getting hot and I seem to remember that I did struggle loading one of the films.
thanks
-
Ah yes I have the same problem with my dark bag. Gets surprisingly humid in there once you get in there working. Very frustrating sometimes!
-
Is it possible that some of the film got overlapped in the spool? If two layers are in the same groove (pressed against each other) you can get weird uneven developing like this. Just a thought.

It's been edited for you. It's because you tried to shoot a l**dscape Mr Windy. Obvious isn't it?
-
Congrats Windy ;)
I think you managed to get everything that can go wrong on the same negative!
Do you use photo-flo in the tank or in another container? It seems like there are some foam bubbles.
Did you use the proper amount of developer? Foaming developer will produce similar patterns.
I think I can see some air bubbles... little round pockets with a halo on the outside and dark spots on the inside.
Fingerprints...
Places where the negatives obviously touched during processing.
The agitation was probably a bit vigorous too...
Hope that helps heal your pain ;)

Let me know exactly what you did Mr Windy when we 'do' lunch Thursday while your wife is abroad. :-) I just LOVE the effect.
