The Chapel of St Peter on the Wall can be found on the Essex coast near the village of Bradwell on Sea.  The chapel was built in AD 654 by St Cedd on the ruins of the old Roman fort of Othona as he began his mission to convert the Anglo Saxons of the area to Christianity. 

It is one of the oldest buildings to be found in the United Kingdom.

These photos of the church and its immediate surroundings were shot with a Holga loaded with Efke IR820.

Love your photos of this place.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so, with that in mind, here's a few from a trip your photos inspired us to take to Bradwell last weekend. Mine aren't nearly as good as your originals - but I like the place and will re-visit with a MF camera in winter as I think "bleak" is probably the best look for this place...

(Nikon F6, 24mm/f2.8 (+ polarising filter) on Ilford XP2 Super. Processed in Lightroom 4 - faux Infra Red look.)

I have just seen your post, thank you.  I like your take on the church and agree that winter is definitely the best time to visit Bradwell especially if shooting with real IR film.
